Ike’s Top 5 Yuri of December (Patreon)
Content
(Script Written For the Video - Some Links Are Affiliate Links)
Well, well, well. What do we have here? A top 5 yuri list. Anyways, as per usual, I ended up taking a break from yuri, although it wasn’t of my own choice. The manga website I usually go to went down for like half a year or more and I lost my list of manga. When the dam finally broke and the yuri flooded in, I knew it was time for another top 5 list because I don’t have time to make a video about every single yuri that I come across. Eventually, but not now.
Please note that it doesn’t mean the yuri has to be made in December, just the yuri I’ve been reading in December. Take everything with a grain of salt because this is my list, so it’ll be different from yours. If you’re looking for other yuri recommendations, feel free to check out my Amazon shop in the description down below. It is an affiliate link. Other than that, let us get started.
5. Ojou-sama wa Love Come no Shujinkou ni Naritai!
I was really into harem and ecchi anime/manga back in middle school. Obviously, I was in it for the girls. But I grew out of it as I got more into yuri and started thinking, “Why can’t the MC just be a girl instead?”
In comes a yuri manga called “A Noble Girl Wants to be a Harem Protagonist!” to ease that itch. Albeit, this is not the first yuri harem I’ve read, nor it be the first ecchi. Instead, it brings me back to my childhood with all the stupid “harem situation” that happens. We even got that annoying character that keeps trying to get in the MC’s way, although her character is a funny contrast to the MC.
So the story is about a noble girl named Tsubaki Saionji who discovers the world of harem and now wants to have a harem of her own. Wow, who would’ve thought that title was self-explanatory.
I love how aware the characters are, and despite Tsubaki understanding the basics of harems, she fits the bill of a harem protagonist by being dense as lead. She is playing on easy mode by being a girl, so she ends up in harem situations with little repercussions. The girls in her harems are textbook, but likeable. You toss me a tsundere and there’s a 90% chance I’ll love her.
Anyway, I had a great time reading this manga. The art is great. It’s funny. There’s no drama. And lots of fanservice. It’s only three volumes. Check it out.
4. Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess
There’s a been a surge of isekai yuri, I feel. I remember getting a taste of it with I’m In Love With The Villainess, then The Executioner and Her Way of Life, then The Magical Revolution, and then A Lily Blooms in Another World–yada yada yada. And now here I am with Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess.
So the story is about Yvonne who finds out she’s actually a villainess for a game, and that it has a villainess system. This system forces Yvonne to bully the heroine, Elsa. She tries to get away from Elsa as a way to not bully her anymore, but finds out that Elsa follows her and now wants Yvonne to bully her. I can’t tell whether I’m getting better at summaries or worse.
Elsa is a total M and Yvonne is a T for tsundere. Then there’s the villainess system… how long until this series turns into an SM series? (Congratulations, you’ve found out why it’s on the list) There are only 10 chapters out, so I’ll have to see where it goes, but currently, I do enjoy it despite the story feeling like a lot of detail has been left out. Maybe it’s because of the translator notes about details of the webnovel that makes me feel this way.
I love the art style and the coloring. Both Elsa and Yvonne are adorable in their own ways, and I’m intrigued to know more about the story. Check it out.
3. Even Though We’re Adults (Affiliate Link)
I’ve been putting this manga off for a while because I expected it to be dramatic, but I finally decided to read it considering I now have three volumes of it. I might as well. And in the end, I found “Even Though We’re Adults” not dramatic as I expected to be.
So the story is about an elementary school teacher named Ayano meeting another woman named Akari at the bar. They end up sharing a few kisses and perhaps there might’ve been a connection between them two, but Akari finds out that Ayano is married. Yet despite that circumstance, Ayano still wants them to continue their relationship.
That’s right. It’s a story about a woman cheating on her husband with another woman. Everything I thought I knew about these sort of plotlines are tossed out the window with this story. It starts with the last two chapters of volume 1, and it just keeps going in directions I didn’t expect. The manga is filled with characters who are rational, yet irrational at the same time and I kinda like that.
Ayano and Akari have their heads on their shoulders, but this love that they found makes them do irrational things. The same goes for Wataru, Ayano’s husband. Then there’s Ayano’s and Wataru’s family who hear of this news. The portrayal of Akari and how she feels as the homewrecker, even though she didn’t know about the whole husband in the beginning, was great for the realism.
Now, despite the heavy topic of cheating, this manga has got quite a few quips and jokes in its sleeves. And I very much enjoy them. There’s nothing like laughing through an affair, amirite? Also, it has a character that I relate to way too much and I don’t like it.
I love the art style, which I feel can be applied to every yuri in the list. I know I said it’s not as dramatic as I expect it to be, but maybe that’ll change with volume four. Who knows? Either way, check it out. (And yes, I know I talked about this back in 2019)
BONUS. The Whole of Humanity Has Gone Yuri Except For Me (Affiliate Link)
So the story is about a normal girl who wants to have a normal relationship, but ends up finding herself in a world where the new normal is being gay. Because there are no men. Only women.
When I saw this title, I thought it was going to be more of a comedy where a “straight” girl ends up in a gay world. But no, it took itself more seriously and I was pleasantly surprised. Actually, because of those serious parts, the comedy slaps a whole lot more.
Check it out.
2. Satanophony
DISCLAIMER: Gore, Sexual Violence, Nudity
That’s right. Satanophony. It’s technically not a yuri, but it has yuri elements a la the main character has sort of a “relationship” with another character who looks just like her, so I guess it could count as selfcest.
I’ll be honest with you, I’ve been wanting to talk about this manga for so long. There are so many scenes I love in this manga. I love the sisterhood that forms from these serial killers, which is quite the wild thing to hear if you don’t know what the story’s about.
So the story’s about a mysterious syndrome going around affecting young girls and turning them homicidal. Our main character, Chika Amagi is arrested for the murder of five people and is sentenced to a prison on an island filled with other female serial killers.
During the writing of this script, I got distracted reading Satanophy. What a fun series. Anyways, the actual yuri part of it is alright. Like I said, Chika and Sayoko look very much like each other, and it doesn’t help that they have similar haircuts (although one of them do end up cutting their hair). Their relationship is alright, I don’t have a problem with it, but I’m really here for Karin and Katya and their growing friendship. Kiriko and Youko are also great! Mina, despite her gimmick being a clown magician, I feel is an actual magician with some of the tricks that she’s playing.
The antagonist during the ship arc is ridiculously over the top. The fights/kills during the ship arc are ridiculous and over the top. Don’t even get me started on the whole ballerina thing. But in the end… it’s all very entertaining and I love it.
During the writing of this script, I have gone through the entire ship arc again.
It’s violent. There are quite the amount of genital mutilation. It can get pretentious with its love for serial killers. And the information told should be taken with a pound of salt. Other than that, it’s a fun manga. Check it out.
1. School Zone Girls (Affiliate Link)
You wanna know what got me into reading this manga? The cover of volume three. I love it. It’s one of my favorite cover and I’m glad to be finally be able to have a physical copy.
School Zone Girls take place in two schools and follow a wide variety of characters. It’s sorta like Virgins’ Empire except without the smut and more chaotic. In the midst of that chaos, there are some great scenes that really hits deep in my depression, but also has some of my favorite scenes that I keep going back and rereading. Somebody please help me.
I love the majority of the cast, but I don’t dislike the minorities (of the cast, I mean. Don’t take that out of context). The pairs are great with some of them more chaotic than the others. There are a good amount of dark undertones that I enjoy and am intrigued to see how it’ll affect the story in the future.
I love Tsubaki and Nakatani, and they have the favorite scenes that I can’t stop rereading. Again… you give me a tsundere and there is a 90% chance I will love her. God bless Nakatani, our gyaru tsundere. Yatsude obviously holds a special place in my heart, I mean, who wouldn’t with these eyes of hers. Matsuri, or Fuji, and Kishiya are also a great pairing. Then there’s Yokoe and Kei, the “main characters” and the most chaotic of them all. We’ve been getting more development about them, so I’ve been enjoying that.
It’s a fun and chaotic manga, but there might be a few characters that can get on your nerves. Some of the comedy doesn’t hit me as much. Although there are a lot of other moments that make up for that. And as you should’ve expected, I really like the art. Check it out.
