Lol can Victor supply us with a list of which characters have to listen to other characters? Jack didn't let her come cause he is being PETTY to her because of the SAWYER and her situation. KATE is the one who can track. Kate is the one who has military firearms training from her father. He's a doctor. More importantly he's the only damn doctor on the island and shouldn't be running off doing this crap cause he can't be replaced. Why if Michael needed help didn't they get Sayid who is a soldier? Cause Mr. Captain Save A Hoe tries to save all these bitches all the time lol and he's always running off half cocked. What was his plan here?

So most of these flashback stories serve some purpose in understanding the character or they are parrallell stories of them doing the same things. In his flashback he wants to try to play the hero. He is taking on more than he should and someone died and his relationships with his father and his wife suffer because of it. He tries to fix the unfixable to satisfy his own ego and it isn't getting him very far at the moment.
