I feel like they missed an important scene of Elena admitting she has a thing for Damon. They were too focused on Caroline.

This episode is perfect to understand the difference between the two brothers. Stefan repress his vampire nature and pretend to be human, specially around Elena, so she think that that is how a vampire should be, without realising that by repressing your nature you are exposing yourself to swing of behaviour like Stefan has, he is of almost human or a ripper that cannot controll himself. Damon strangely enough is much more balanced, bucause he is a vampire, he cannot do anything about it, so he faced reality and embraced it, without the guilt, the shame and the self loading. That is what he is saying to Elena," I'm not human, I'm a vampire, take it or leave it, I cannot pretend to be someone I'm not, like Stefan does, and if you think I'm a monster why are you around". Damon has self respect, that Stefan is lacking of.

Damon temporary killing Alaric was bad, even if you know is temporary is still bad, you don't harm your friends!. But I can understand his point of view. eis a 170 plus year vampire, and poeple that lived a fraction of his time are telling him all the time how to behave, it must be very annoying. Plus he is in love with Eleena and they are getting very close and bvery confortable with each other, Elena is not a minor anymore and his not Alaric business to tell Damon to back off, like he would harm her somehow and is Elena's choice to date whoever she wants. So that from Alaric is understandable, but a bit much. Imagine your father going to your potential, love interest and tell him to take a bit. How embarassingly wrong on so many level.

I understand Caroline not liking Damon at all t for the reasons we know. But she is not been a good Elena's friend here, by being judgemental of Elena's feelings. I was where Grace is, when I watched this episode for the first time, I didn't like her dad one bit, I gave credit to Caroline, for being way better then him and not have a once of hatred in her body, even after what he did to her. An that is the greatness of Caroline.

I 100% believe Caroline *thinks* she is being a good friend. At times we need to hear hard truths and our good friends will do that. Stuff like that can help a person sort out how they actually feel about something. I think Elena DID need to hear it and to me it felt like Caroline kinda snapped Elena out of her denial and made her start to deal with whatever is going on in her head. In the end there she was understanding and kind about it by telling Elena "it means you're human, Elena"
