Public Update - August (Patreon)
Content
If you're wondering, the updates I make for $5 patrons (and higher contributions) are similar to these public ones except that I include sexier pictures, I do them every week and I go into more detail about what I'm actually doing. Oh, and I added the text to the picture because I heard that a lot of people don't go any further than looking at the picture and don't read captions or anything. Just a trial idea.
What's new in the latest alpha version of Pervert Action: Legacy?
- Masami's sex scene.
- Masami's voice acting.
- Collector cards for in-game achievements.
- Slime goo can melt maids' dresses.
- More pictures.
- Bug fixes.
Overall, v0.11.0 contains:
- All (main plot) sex scenes apart from one threesome. (Coming in the next version.)
- Mostly complete combat system (graphics still need work)
- Most of the voice acting.
- Story up to day 20 (of 21), but not the climax of the story or the endings.
- Almost all side puzzles implemented.
Main features planned for next version (0.12.0):
- Final threesome scene.
- More graphics.
- Functional potions.
- Several gameplay improvements.
Why you should be careful about who you support on Patreon
Okay, so I'm a little concerned this next point might seem like a self-aggrandizing rant but it's a point I would like to make. Feel free to skip to the next topic.
I have noticed that among indie adult game developers very few seem to actually take their game projects all the way to completion. If you're inclined to support game developers on services like Patreon then you have to be pretty happy with supporting projects that only get a little way finished before the developers lose interest in the hard work part of the project and get lazy.
There are a lot of reasons for this - we all have lives to live and bills to pay - but a lot of the time the people asking for money for a project aren't really reliable enough to see it through. Therefore you see a lot of half-finished 'vaporware' games out there that will probably never be finished, and very few large indie adult games that actually are complete.
If I may toot my own horn a little bit, the fact that I've completed a bunch of games before means that I have an established work schedule and know how to finish large projects like this. This is also one reason I tend not to do public releases until the game is complete, even though that may not be good business sense. I'm also not relying overmuch on other people who might flake out on the project, or relying on reaching future funding goals that may never materialise. Because of that I actually know I can and will get it done, assuming I don't get hit by a bus tomorrow or something.
Otherwise, when thinking about who to support, I'd look to developers who produce smaller, more manageable projects or who have a proven track record, unless you're just happy playing the early, incomplete versions of their games without necessarily expecting them to be finished. I have seen a few people out there who seem to fit the bill and others that I hope will fit that bill in the future, but there aren't all that many reliable candidates at the moment. I mention all this because there are a few projects I've seen out there that I'd kind of like to recommend to you, but I just don't know enough to be sure whether they're reliable.
Status of Pervert Action: Legacy
On that topic, PAL has been running mostly on schedule, albeit with some slight delays. It's annoying how hard it is for me to predict how long it will take to release a game like this, but the time frame I put out last month was an attempt to be as transparent as possible about the current state of development. I am continuing on with that release schedule and I'm happy about putting it out there because it's a clear plan.
I did realise after putting it out, however, that while I have only a few substantial features still to implement, I do have quite a few loose ends to tie up. There's a lot of t-crossing and i-dotting to do, in other words. I may have to leave some of that for the beta stage. One example would be that I realised this month that I really hadn't fully implemented the 'potions' system for the game - a relatively minor feature but one that involved some sexual content and did need finishing, nonetheless. That will be functional in the next alpha along with the final threesome scene.
I will note that based on the last schedule I put out there the first beta version, v0.14.0, might take a little bit longer. Maybe not! I can't quite be sure. Oh, and one small revision is that I think I'm unlikely to be finished the combat graphics in the next alpha. I'll try to make some progress on it, of course, but it's a slow grind with those and I'm really not very enthusiastic about that task.
Do you have questions or opinions? Was I out of line calling out other game developers like that?
