Some counter points: Anime Expo touts 100K+ annual unique attendance, 3rd to only New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con. Anime Expo offers a free 8,500 sq ft tabletop gaming area were many people play MTG. Mugen Train grossed $506.5 million USD worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2020. Manga is one of the few growth categories in what is otherwise declining book sales. Annual NA manga sales now surpass NA graphic novel sales. https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/comics/article/90578-manga-wins-new-york-comic-con-2022.html Grand Archive TCG, an entirely anime art TCG, raised nearly $1M via Kickstarter with no major promoters (vs. Alpha Investments promoting Sorcery: Contested Realm). The game plays similar to MTG and some argue better than MTG because of major improvements to the land system. Hand size pays resource costs. No overpriced Duals. No shuffle-shuffle-shuffle Fetches. No more 'mana screw'. If Wizards wants to continue to grow its player pool, it makes lots of sense to reach across the isle to anime/manga fans.
