When choosing a commander, 2-3 color commanders are typically easier to build around than mono or 5 color commanders. A low casting cost can be very advantageous, as can a low percieved threat of your commander. Players may want to consider looking for an underrated or underused commander, simply because they may fly under the radar of your opponents until it is too late.
