Hi everyone! On Thursday, I'll have a video log (or "vlog" as the kids are calling it these days) talking more about Patron polling, bonus videos, etc., but before then I'd like to start a call for topics for the bonus videos. Every Thursday for the month of June (as well as every future month where I meet my funding) will have a 'bonus' video that Patrons got to vote on. Voting will take place one week before the start of each month, and the top voted topics will be used for that month's bonus videos. All patrons can add topics to be voted on. The list posted here is my working draft, and I will continue to update it as new topic submissions come in (but I do feel this list is pretty close to complete as is). Please send me a Patreon message with any topics you do not see listed here. Please notice the nature of these topics: they are the type of videos I make, not the specific individual videos. So, for example, a possible topic for a bonus video is "Modern Deck Tech" not "Mono Black Modern Mill [Budget]" (because maybe I can't do that). So if you are submitting a new topic to me, try and keep it in line with what you see here. Ultra Specific video ideas won't work for voting or production. Also, you will notice that product reviews are not listed as potential bonus videos. Why? Because I am always, always, always doing product reviews as fast and as best as possible. If there's any product (that's available) that I have not yet reviewed, let me know about it, and I will work on the review (although I am probably already working on it). Product reviews take a huge amount of time and require weeks of testing. I am always working on them. I propose: - Readings of your unpublished novels (Not sure if this is covered by 'Literature & Arts')

Anonymous

Please do highlander whatever... maybe deck tech... and please no MTGO... It hurts my eyes just to look at that monstrosity.

Anonymous

I'd love to see a video, or video series on hand-crafted gaming accessories. Not an 'is it worth it' video, but more as an awareness campaign. Many fine crafts-people and hobbyists (myself included) make fine, quality products. Dice bags, life counters, carrying cases etc. It is unfortunately some times hard to communicate with a potential consumer (be it player or store) the value of hand crafted goods in a mass marketing world and I think spot-lighting this niche of our community would fit nicely in your channel. Thanks!

Anonymous

I love the Magic list you have already, but I have a couple of ideas for D&D/roleplaying topics: - playing characters well (NPCs or PCs - both apply) - writing scenarios that engage your players - presentation tricks to heighten involvement in scenarios Obviously the last two are more GM-focussed, so if you don't run games* then those are moot. [*] which would honestly surprise me.

Anonymous

Maybe you could do a tutorial on how to make a mana base for a commander deck? Mine always turn out a bit funky.

Anonymous

Sideboard tech. Basically, how to construct an effective sideboard, and how do you determine what to take out and what to put in. I work really hard at making 60 card decks that do what I want them to do. but I never know what to do with a sideboard, and even if I crafted one, I spent so much time balancing the 60 already in there, I'd have no idea what to take out....

Anonymous

Tiny Leaders! Advanced instructional video, I really want to get into this format but I'm unsure where to start!

Anonymous

Tiny Leaders plz!

Anonymous

personal vlogs (stories and such... also readings of your novels) streaaaaaams. tiny leaders deck techs and you playing with tech decks

Anonymous

Anything tiny leaders. It's a great new format for newer players, or players on a budget. Also, some modern masters draft tips I know would really help me and others in my position. I didn't play magic when these cards where out and are not sure what cards to look for in a draft.

Anonymous

Would love to see a Modern Deck Tech (BW TOKENS!). But I am happy with whatever you do.

Anonymous

This would be really good. How do you side board against RUG control with all the counter spells and if this would not be enough eternal witness plus snapcaster mage to recast what ever. Once I've got really lucky and hit 3 out of 4 extirpirate-s and exiled half of his deck.

Anonymous

Modern Deck Tech please.

Anonymous

modern stream!

Anonymous

Modern stream!

Anonymous

Product reviews are the thing that lead me to your channel, Professor. So I would love to see more of those. All the deck techs would be welcome to me as well, emphasis on Legacy and EDH. Other than that, keep doing what you do!

Anonymous

I'm partial to Modern and Legacy. Pauper is fun too, and hardly ever covered elsewhere.

Anonymous

Professor, I believe that an occasional video discussing magic philosophy, unwritten rules of magic, or magic/gaming culture would be neat. Perhaps a "known your meme" segment to explain something silly like storm crow. a lighter shorter video. MTG roundtable with you as the moderator and other you-tubers discussing the issue of the day.

Anonymous

Tiny leaders advanced deck tech please professor! Also perhaps a monthly video on your own unpublished novels?

Anonymous

Perhaps a video on the Slang of Magic: the Gathering? I'd also love a video of the different archetypes in Legacy. Thank you, much love!

Anonymous

I'd like to see a non-April Fools discussion of Vintage, a format overview, like you've done with the other formats.

Anonymous

Yes a video on the various slang terms what they mean and where they come from would be good

Anonymous

Maybe a series on player etiquette ? :)

Anonymous

I think a primer on card evaluation would be great, what makes a good limited vs. constructed vs. commander card? Why are some cards bad? (and why?)

Anonymous

A coulpe of games against your wife or friends! Betting chores or punishments

Anonymous

I'm a modern player so my vote is for ideas/brews that u think that if someone takes the time can brake the format with the concept

Anonymous

A deck tech on Reanimator in Legacy!

Anonymous

Prof, can you do an Izzet modern deck tech?

Anonymous

Im actually interested in your unpublished books. That or a Modern Deck Tech or Standard Budget Deck Tech

Anonymous

I posted this on the activity wall, but I'll repost it here. since this is the correct place. Hey, Professor, I know It's down the road somewhere, but could you ever review the lucky mystery box service? http://www.ideal808.com/catalog/lucky_mystery_box-magic_the_gathering/4283 That and/or some pauper tech

tolariancommunitycollege

Hi David, I'm feeling really disinterested in these grab bag monthly loot services at the moment. There's a lot of them popping up, and I'm not a big advocate of them for most players nor do I want to appear to be. I think I may hold a completely separate vote as to whether I continue looking at them. If a majority of people want me to, I will. If I do continue to look at them, I will absolutely get a hold of a "Mystery Box" for scrutiny.

Kevin Stefanowicz

Hi Professor - I propose the following: a guide for how to trade out your Standard deck to keep playing post-rotation. With the upcoming release of Battle for Zendikar, my Jeskai deck is losing Battlefield Forge, Shivan Reef, Raise the Alarm, Goblin Rabblemaster, and various other Standard staples. I'd like some help knowing when and how to disassemble the deck and trade items of value out in order to get new staples and continue playing Standard, the format I love. Thanks!

Anonymous

Hi Professor! I'd love to see an introductory video to Dungeons and Dragons. I've been looking to get into it with a couple similarly interested friends but we have no experience with it, none of us have even played pen and paper RPGs before! Also I would suggest that when it comes time to vote on a video, that you cut down the list to 5-10 options. Otherwise, the vote spread will be so large that the video you make will only have been voted for by a minority of Patrons and a majority of us will feel consequently disappointed. Thanks so much, and great video today!

Anonymous

I second the motion Frank Sorschak. I too would dearly love to see an introductory video on dungeons and dragons.

Magic Fundamentals Defined

Anonymous

"How to cheaply get into modern?" Some deck techs that are cheap and easy to buy and good gateways from standard to modern for new players. Cheap decks ($100?) that have good ways to upgrade them later. "Make and RDW like this and later splash for this colour to do this and change this card for this" and so forth.

Anonymous

Booster Packs Opening!

Anonymous

How some of the most common decks work in particular formats . . . their strengths and weaknesses!

Anonymous

Modern deck techs. Include tier 1, 1.5, or 2 but be details on how and why cards are included and how the deck works

Anonymous

Standard, it's been some time since you last posted something related to standard and the format has shifted a lot.

Anonymous

I would be interested in some advanced modern deck tech. With review of best/worst match-ups and sideboarding strategies. Cheers!

Anonymous

Deck tech for Skred Red in Modern would be awesome!!

Anonymous

I would like to maybe be a Advanced Instructional for Modern, mainly because I understand the basics of modern but sometimes have trouble with more advanced ideas, techniques, etc. with modern play

Anonymous

First, congrats on hitting your goal. It seems like there are a lot of good suggestions for ideas here that are broken down into a few categories. 1. Deck tech of (modern, standard, vintage) 2. General magic talk, and tips (sideboarding) 3. Novels and non Magic stuff (D&D etc) My suggestion is to stick with the first two and start another channel on non magic stuff. If that takes off then I say you are on your way to a new career. Personally I really like your reviews and that is why I donated. Put simply, you tell the truth and that has saved me money. So thank you.

Anonymous

I would love to see a video on drafting MM2015. LGC's in my area are starting to draft it, and I would love pointers.

Anonymous

While I'd love a EDH Deck Tech (the treefolk deck was amazing), I think I'd prefer something morea long the lines of the connection between literature and magic, something that taps on the Professor's area. You seem like a cultured, well-read man and I'd like to merge that with MTG

Anonymous

I especially enjoy the Modern deck tech videos. Beyond that, the advanced instructional videos on the various formats is also really helpful. I've gotten a lot of great ideas from this channel and it's really helped me improve. Also, I would like to see a more in-depth look at sideboard tech. It can make such a big difference and it can be difficult to build an optimal sideboard. Budget options much needed!

Anonymous

id like to see commented games and teachings about the ''what you should do and what you should not'' while playing or some trick to do to improve your play (sorry about the bad english x) i am a french canadian x))

Tiny leaders deck tech

Honestly I'd be happy if you took the vacation the "bad place" has denied you :) Otherwise EDH or tiny commanders :D

Anonymous

1) Mystery Bonus Episode and 2) Advanced studies, 'Why Exactly is milling not a very optimal strategy in MTG'

Anonymous

Mm2015 draft archetypes

Anonymous

An advanced instructional video on Tiny Leaders would be great! Other than that, Trading for Rotation or you reading your novels would be awesome. I feel Booster Pack Opening should be used as a bonus video when you are short on time. It doesn't require as much effort as the other topics, even though it is fun to watch (and even more fun to open the packs). Save them for a rainy day! On the topic of "non MtG related stuff", I'm not a fan. I'm mainly a patreon because of your wonderful personality, but MtG is what I am interested in, not D&D or Boardgames.

Anonymous

The magic slang thing is something I was actually going to suggest. I am no longer a new player but when I first got into the game years ago people were saying things like grixis, esper and bob. As a new player I had no idea what they meant. Even though I wouldn't find much value in a video like this now I still feel that would be a relatively easy video to create and would possibly help out a new player just to understand what other people mean and make the game less overwhelming. Some words off of the top of my head Goyf Fetch lands Check lands Bounce lands Bob The ravnica factions The shards Manlands Even explaining something as simple as why shocks and fetches are good would help new players. I remember being brand new to the game and being so mad to see a land in my rare slot and the worst thing was it did 2 damage to me to boot! Also the modern deck ticks were really well done and I'd like to see more of those

Anonymous

Family Magic. Also, it'd be interesting to have you weigh in on the recent Reddit controversy surrounding rapist Zach Jesse. Should he be allowed to even play? If so, do players have a right to know?

Anonymous

I'd like to see a video on if playing Magic: the Gathering Online is worth it for players new to the game. Explaining how the virtual to real card thing works would be cool too.

Anonymous

I would love for you to help make Deck Techs for Legacy, maybe even help in getting players into it by joining Legacy on a budget and building their way up. An example of this you already did with your Merfolk Modern/Legacy Deck Tech. Also I would not mind a video on how to get people to come to a new store and play magic, even maybe try getting them into another format and organise events for that format (I've been trying to get Legacy events going for ages but people are too hooked on Standard around here and I don't know how to get them to try something different.)

Anonymous

the professor already made a budget modern RDW dech tech video, with tips for upgrading it for more $$, but more videos along those lines would be cool, too!

Anonymous

seconded. my vote would be for mtg slang, or sideboard tech.

Anonymous

I agree with the people who say there should be something on Magic slang. As a player who started in the last two years, I still do not have it all down. I think it would also be cool to go over how to evaluate cards in general. For instance, when I started playing I would look at Tarmagoyf and Lhurgoyf, and they seem like they should be near the same value. Most of my experience would be in draft but i think the skills would be valid for any format.

Anonymous

I would like to see more about modern decks, advanced instructional sounds good. And I would love to see something about a Tolarian Community College Cube.

Anonymous

Absolutely Slang of Magic

Anonymous

magic slang would be a good topic. just returned in 2014, last time i played was 2004

Anonymous

I would love to see a video on combos. I know there are a million combos out there but it would be great to learn if there are ways to spot cards that offer combos. Is there a certain language or mechanic that we should be looking for? Also it would be helpful to explain synergy vs combos. This may be very simple for lots of folks but i am not the sharpest pencil in the box and maybe there are others as well who could benefit from this.

Anonymous

What about rule complexities/rule puzzles? Not sure if its up your alley, but it sounds fun and definitely fits the "community college" flavor.

Anonymous

moar budget modern please!

Professor I want to see more video about sorting card in binder or folder, I having problem putting 4 card in one sleeve in each pocket and putting single in each pocket and ruin the 9 pocket. I try 3 brand in the market and still searching for a better 9 pocket.

Anonymous

I don't know how much traction my ideas would garner, based on all the previously suggested topics. I primarily build and play pre-Weatherlight decks. I would propose 'Magic History' videos discussing various deck builds of the 90s and seeing how those concepts evolved over the years. 'Do today's decks have roots in the Ice Age?' For example. Also, I would be interested to see more of your 'Old Man' videos, it is fun to see your dad continue to support your interests.

Anonymous

Pauper decks and meta would be good

Anonymous

MTG slang, and an intro into dnd

Anonymous

Hey professor! I want to know if there are any products to display collections. For example, I collect dragons and would like some cool way of displaying them. I have a binder but that's kinda normal... haha I have a few extra dollars to spend on something nice. I will also look for this but if you get the chance that'd be great. If you don't have enough material to make a video but know something also let me know via PM. Btw, I'm on my way to being a professor as well... the job market doesn't seem favorable but teaching is my passion so I'm going for it. I'm on my first year of PhD.

I would love more decktechs! modern in particular.

Anonymous

I know this may not be a popular opinion but I would really love book recommendation list. Nothing huge just maybe a few selections from your personal favorites.

Anonymous

Hey Professor, I'd love for you to share your experience and do a video on fun booster boxes to draft. It should focus on the most fun non-standard limited environment on a budget. Right now I'm looking to buy a box for drafting with my friends for less than $80 that isn't conspiracy so a video on this topic would be amazing.

Anonymous

I would love more modern deck techs and keep on the awesome product reviews.

Anonymous

Hi Professor, i'm late with supporting you, but i guess it's never too late. =) I really enjoy all of your videos! I even entered Modern with a Mono U Tron because of you! Sadly I missed to attend you live stream here from germany, but i'm really lookin' forward to get some of your mats, shirts, cups and perhaps dice bags ;) ? I would really love to see some kind of sealed product reviews and improvements of those ( e.g. The Commander14/15 sets), how do they play against each other, and how to improve them on a budget to get the most out of them. Currently there are some friends of mine entering MTG and thats what i told them, start with drafts/sealed or just an precon EDH to play in our group and just have fun. Many Many thanks for you videos. Best Greetz from Berlin Germany =) Felix

Anonymous

Would like to see more "Old Man remembers the 90's" if you dad is willing to do them =)

Anonymous

Considering your praise for the Hyper Mat sleeves, I'd like to see a review of the new Hyper Mat Premium sleeves.

tolariancommunitycollege

He is! He just called me about doing more the other day. The problem is that he doesn't live near me, so I can't always put them on the poll because I don't see him as often as I would like.

Anonymous

MTG Slag Defined would be nice for a newer player as myself. I would also love to suggest another helpful guide for newer players to find places to play magic when they do not have a current LGS. (This is my current conundrum and I might not be able to play because of it.) Thank you again for all your amazing work Professor!

Anonymous

I would love to see some literature reviews, like maybe your most loved and hated books, or great books most people haven't read. Thanks Professor!

Anonymous

How about a video of you quitting your job. Lol. No but seriously how about booster box game of modern masters

kitkat3musk

One thing I haven't seen, which I think you'd be amazing at, is a comprehensive, 3rd Party "This Week in Magic". What GP's are this weekend, current hot Decks, any official Magic News to come out to WOTC that week, any vloggers with a crazy successful Patreon campaigns ( ;-) ), etc.

Anonymous

I would like to see some more on commander/edh

Anonymous

Anything modern or edh related would be super fun. I would also love to hear some of the stories you have written. Fantasy literature is my jam :)

Anonymous

Also, more dies to removal please!

Anonymous

I really enjoy your deck techs for Commander/EDH. I think they are mini-masterpieces. They seem like they probably take the longest, but I don't know. The perfect example is the Sliver EDH video. You've talked about your dream for your channel. Well, my dream for your channel is that I get to watch one of these EDH videos every week. It may not be possible, however. Either way, I'm going to be a broken record on this. More EDH, less of everything else. All EDH, all the time. Get used to it. ;)

Anonymous

Pauper/Vintage DECK TECH! As for an actual voting system, I've got nothing...

Anonymous

Sorta want to see if you could do a D&D beginners tutorial :D

Anonymous

Personally I think that watching you stream some of your games (especially Commander Usurper, which is my favorite format) would be beyond fantastic, but when I talk with my friends about it some seem to disagree because they don't want your channel swarmed with game-streams. I get the idea that game-streams might appeal to different people /(only some of the people) than those who are interested in your reviews etc. But I would really love to see some videos of you or your friends playing with you as commentator (which you would be great at). So I thought that maybe, if you agree that this could be a problem and you actually don't mind going through the trouble, you could make a secondary channel dedicated to game-streams :) An idea for a name: Tolarian Battleground

Anonymous

https://www.easypolls.net/ lots of choices online like this

Anonymous

I actually don't know how to send you private message, so here's my list of possible topics not listed: - I'm quitting Magic, how to sell my cards (and why not on a GP for stores buy prices) [You could talk about selling to friends or not selling at all or how bad prices have shops that buy] - Why is Magic as a game awesome and basics to TCG. A game beyond a game itself. Community, collecting and traveling. [So a video about not game mechanics, but pointed at people that doesn't know what's a TCG and with zero experience to card games. Something my grandma could watch or a girl I'm dating and understand my fanaticism.]

Anonymous

I really like this idea! But I do agree also that it would be an shame to have your channel filled with gameplay videos. Maybe one a month? Or even every two months? Maybe you could pilot your budget decks from yours channel against decks that cost more to construct. Just to show people how competitive they really are?
