Playing with commons from throughout magic’s entire history, with no reserve list, it’s legacy lite, but as opposed to legacy fully upgraded tier 1 decks costing 40, 50, 60 dollars to build, maybe the top decks costing 100 bucks and none of them, not one card ever rotate away, playing with counterspell and lightning bolt and gush and doomblade, and delver of secrets, and more elves than than a lord of the rings extended cut battle scene. truly pauper is one of the best formats for this game: there’s just one problem. Wizards of the Coast still won’t even acknowledge it exists! While brand new formats like Brawl are are plastered and promoted and pushed to extreme excess by WotC, Pauper still isn’t even on Gatherer. A month ago, they sent out a survey asking players what their favorite format was, but Pauper wasn’t even listed as an option, Brawl was, but still this company refuses to acknowledge the format let alone promote or support it, but luckily, we all went above their heads. Six months ago, exasperated by the lack of pauper support, I made a Tweet urging Star City Games and Channel Fireball to take matters into their own hands and you, the community chose that moment to ignite a fire. The response from all of you was so incredible that both companies started testing the waters of Pauper, with Channel Fireball offering daily Pauper events at all GPs, Star City Games Open Weekends offering Pauper Challenges as side events, and the turnout to all of this has been substantial. Pauper came to paper and it is here to stay. And to this I say, NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We didn’t ask for Pauper side events. We want real tournaments! Major pauper competitions! Well, it looks like this month we’ll get that wish granted, as it’s Star City Games versus Channel Fireball literally going up against each other to try and hold for the biggest competitive Pauper event ever. In just six months we’ve gone from pauper being online only, to Competitive Pauper Tournaments Having finally Arrived!
