All too often, people who are depressed isolate themselves from those they love or others who may be able to help. Isolation can make depression feel worse and increase the risk that a person will experience suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Helplines are available to those who feel like they need someone to talk to but may not know where to start.

Thank you for making this

Thank you for the honesty and bravery, both for what you share with us and for stepping up to yourself. I know it can be harder to do the latter. *high-five*

It was extremely brave and wonderful of you to upload this video. I have kept my mental "issues" very close to the vest for most of my life as, like you mentioned in the beginning of the video, people tend to see a person differently when they have confessed to having any sort of mental illness. Even people who love and care for a mentally ill person have difficulty understanding that for that person it is not necessarily as easy to just "get over" whatever it is that they are going through using just their brain and willpower...

You are my hero.

Prof, I am an army vet who has had battles with PTSD and depression over the years and I understand how difficult it is to talk about these things. I appreciate your being open and honest regarding your struggles. Stay strong and know you aren't alone and have a huge community to draw on for support.

I don't consider this brave. I don't consider this an act of cowardice either. I consider this honest. Maybe this is why I value you, or at least your videos. Depressed people are often honest, so long as they (We) feel that doing so is safe. Or at least this is my experience with it. I also feel like many depressed people are realists, and that we are more likely to look at the whole picture rather than just some of it. (Once again, my opinion, and very few personality traits are set in stone. While there is plenty to be depressed over, one thing that I (And apparently a lot of people) value are your contributions to the MTG community. You look at all aspects of the game, be it competitive, casual, or financial, and find fun or at least interesting ways to speak on them and give advice. You aren't my hero (Heroes are a misleading and largely fabricated concept) but you have gained my respect and the respect, I assume, of many. Your effort, honesty, and dedication are all appreciated.

I don't know enough about your non-MTG life to say for sure, but you do appear to be an exemplar person in other aspects of your life as well. Your empathy is impressive. Most people that I know only know of empathy what they have been taught. "If you've been there, you know". But if our modern school system is any indication, regurgitating phrases that you've heard a lot is not the same as understanding their meaning. Appreciation aside, I feel a sort of distant kinship with people of great empathy. I'm not personally good with praise, since I often think it is not earned. "You did this thing that you were supposed to do. You're a hero" type stuff. But you, sir, I believe deserve some.

Thank you! This is what makes you awesome - wanting to do the right thing and help people with whatever it is you can connect with them on. I love you for this. I truly do.

Thank you for being an awesome human being Prof and such a positive voice for this community. I was amazed that you had even had my tiny country's suicide hotline number in that wall of text. I didn't know it! Quite astounding to find it here, but then again, I'm sometimes not sure where I would be without mtg and this community. Thanks again <3

Hey Prof very brave of you to come with this, I'm sure you and this video will show others that it is ok too not be afraid to let others know about this. I too suffer from depression but I also like you don't take medicine. I am seeing a therapist to help me cope with this. I am greatly appreciated for you making this video. I hope for the best for you and keep doing what you do best and that is making awesome videos.
