outside of my normal work and family responsibilities i have been taking mentoring classes in traditional art.

these classes were with 2 different teachers on different days with the focus on they would help each student on their own desired project. i went in with the mindset of learning how to paint with oils but as my teachers gave me advice it quickly turned to focusing on color theory and color mixing. THEN i focused even further on painting natural human skin tone and having "Control" over the kind of skin tone and lighting i wanted.

the first few attempts are the more "acid trip" images then more "noodely" with a failed attempt at the zorn palette and then 2 pages of copic marker, water color then acryla gouache with the last two being oils

my teachers both agreed that the second to last one looked like natural human skin lit under moon light but it was not "intentional"

i was given a bunch of color mixing exercises that would focus just on skin tones and then Boom! that last one hit the bulls eye.  nothing needed to be corrected and my skin tones were intentional, now for the rest of the remaining classes i need to repeat that success but with different lightings

i just have a few more classes, then i plan to digest what i have learned and apply it to my work and in about another 6 months or so i hope to take more mentoring classes from them and see how much i retained and how much more i can improve
