Ryan is confronted with the horrible truth about Second Dawn's plans for him...

Thank you for your patience, everyone. We have 24 new pages in this episode! 😊 We get to see more of Ryan's early experience with Second Dawn, and the ways in which it both mirrors Jill's and differs dramatically.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

God DAMN, Emory... (the good kind of god damn)

lmao Ryan: "They keep the companions and the toys apart" Jill: "The what" (insert that "the what" meme here) Honestly Jill you're so naive.

In this series as soon as you think that you have finally sorted out the good from the bad, something happens. Well done again!

I'm so intrigued about Holly, who is telling the truth. Is Ryan right about her? Jill may be naive but she's got goodness in her heart, I love her for that. E, your attention to detail is outstanding. Jill's hand on page 3 looks so real, her manicure is beautiful. It may me wish of kissing her hand.

Brilliant psychology from you yet again, Emory, to say nothing of the superb art. Jill has had reason to doubt Holly before, but you can see it plainly on her face in that first frame, unless, unless… Is Ryan yet another of Xu’s plants sent in to fuck with her mind? It’s impossible to say for sure in this crazy world where Xu and his handlers manipulate both minds and bodies with such terrifying ease. Genuinely nightmarish. And terrific.

Love it! ❤️

Thank you so much, Alyson! I say the same thing when I'm done reading one of your amazing chapters. 😊💖

LOL! Yeah, I kind of figured everyone down here was a kind of "artisanal project." Like, sure, Connor / Connie may eventually be sold off -- but certainly not before her psyche has a chance to adjust to the changes and she's well-adjusted enough to have a decent life. Right!? No, Jill. Ryan is right. You've gotten the white glove treatment. 😬 (Not that it has been a cakewalk for her, either!)

Thank you so much! There are so many layers that I'm having fun exploring. Nobody is what they entirely seem to be (except Davis--he's just an ass). 😉

Thank you, thank you, Pelican! That's the thing, right? We SAW Holly's story, but it was only a visualization of what she was telling Jill. That said, Xu did say to her at the start of this phase: Xu: That's why I like you, Holly. Unlike your father, you know your limitations. So, seemingly, that part of her story at least does appear to be real. Jill has a good, caring heart for sure. 💖 And that's part of her nature that her feminization has made more and more apparent. Certainly, the impact of estrogen is part of it, but also the stripping away of ego to reveal her softer, more gentle side. And thank you for commenting on that page! I was actually quite proud of how it came out. 😊

Thank you so much for your kind words, Robert! 💖 The psychology is always my favorite part of writing the comics, although creating the art is also a joy. Jill is having a lot of the beliefs and assumptions that have kept her afloat these past few years challenged all at once, and it's really throwing her for a loop. "Is Ryan just another one of Xu's tricks?" Honestly, there's a good chance Jill is asking herself the same thing! After all, Xu has shown himself to be a master of manipulation. After everything he has done to her, it's no wonder if she is feeling paranoid. But even so, I think there is still a part of her that wants to believe in the goodness of people -- Holly, Ryan, even Mason (not Davis, lol) -- and she will continue to struggle against the darkness that Xu represents.

I'm liking Ryan, I think he's uncovering things we imagined but didn't know about, like the whole "escorts and toys" thing. I hope and expect that we will find out a little more about this interesting subject..... Holly's topic gives for a master's degree in psychology, hehehe. I'm going back and forth with every bit of information we learn about her. I still think she's a double agent, though now in the other direction.... I think she, being the most "veteran" in the game, has had more time than any of us to assimilate, understand and adapt to the "game". She knows the rules and knows how to move chips to her advantage, because it is clear to her that the first thing is to think of herself. Let's not forget that she has lost a lot: family (she is now an orphan after the murder of her father), fiancée, money/inheritance, status... I mean, she wants revenge on Xu, but she is aware that to get it she has to gain his trust (something I think she has achieved as we saw in the first chapter of this phase 8), I think she is sincere in her affection for Jill, and even in this last chapter we see what she said to Ryan in the cell: "I'm sorry, Ryan. You were in the wrong time and the wrong place. You don't deserve what's going to happen to you. Try to remember that whatever they do, they can't change who you are..." Em, you're very very good with your art, but as I've told you some other time, you're great as a writer.

Ironically, Davis is possibly the only person in the entire mad universe that Xu has created who ever tells the truth, or at least a filtered version of it. You can’t trust anyone else. And Jill needs to come to terms with that, for her sanity and for her ultimate salvation.

emoryahlberg

Wow, thank you so much, ckarya! 💖 Ryan is such an interesting character to write because he represents a side that we haven't really seen yet. Most of the guys who go through Second Dawn's program are not going to end up being happy with their new bodies and lives. We have been following the exceptions to the rule. Ryan is the rule. He's the average guy who is kidnapped and changed against his will. This is allowing Jill to see the specialness of her own adaptability, and also that her change was far more "privileged" (if one could use that word) than others. You're right that Holly has lost a lot, but she doesn't think of herself as a victim. She sees herself as a survivor, but that mentality may also allow her to do terrible things in the name of her own survival. She can rationalize her actions. But, yes, she absolutely cares for Jill and feels guilt over what she has done to others. That's why she's still human and not a monster like Davis or Hudson. We'll see more of Holly (and Janelle) after Jill's episodes with Ryan end. I can't wait!

ckarya

Yes, I totally agree with that, I wasn't referring to her considering herself a victim, she got over that, that's why I say she's the one who has adapted best to the "game". She's long past the point of considering herself a "victim". As you rightly say she now considers herself a survivor and also well adapted, she has accepted what has happened to her and is now moving her chips to her advantage. I think she is very smart and I want to believe, as you rightly say, that she still has her little heart, even if she has to do nasty things to survive and win the game. As for Ryan, very much agree also with what you say, he is the rule, not the exception. In real life very few would embrace or even accept the immense forced changes both physical and mental that are being done to them: abduction, mistreatment, enslavement, loss of their personality and masculinity, etc. I am looking forward to the next chapters! 😘

Loved that last pic.....probably not as much as Hudson though LoL x
