Amazing chapter Emory. What brilliant dialogues you created between all the different characters. Displaying and providing great insights into their thoughts, views, motivations and arguments. Through these interactions you have created such a depth leads to them all feel like very real people and not shallow caricatures. Even Davis is very convincing as he puts forth a solid argument and position, even though it comes from a place that also further highlights his sadistic nature. Once again Jill shines everyone as she reveals such great courage, conviction and compassion highlighting the enormous growth she has undertaken as a person. Again you have left us with a cliff hanger as the scene is all set up and we left us all waiting and wonderings about who pulls the trigger and shoots Mr Xu.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff jaw drop level insane :[.....................................] I love this chapter so much... best ever........ and it gives so much fuel for so many serious discussions... ohhhhhhhhh I think Davis will be the shooter..... (referring to earlier flashback from the future) Xu is a really mysterious entity... i think he wishes Jill being his successor... and i think he knows what Jill will do next... I think Xu seeing Jill how she blossomed physically and obviously mentally knew that this is the end of this place... i will never believe that he considered this place to continue what it was doing after what Jill said in this room... Xu is old... he decided to retire... and retire with the bang... making Jill his successor who will close this "shithole" destroying mostly innocent men (and not innocent but but still not deserving of loosing their balls)

Don’t think we haven’t noticed Davis’s recent changes……perhaps a certain handler’s profile is “accidentally” used as a control for the Jill formula with surprising results. Edit: it’s a bit of a joke because if anyone fits toxic masculinity, it’s Davis. I can’t imagine him being anything like sweet brooke. But if any deserves the treated he gave, it’s himself.

Bobbie

I think it's not only Davis's tongue that's at risk. ✂️🤞❤

There's so many amazing things here! The reveal of Lola is quite interesting and she has a completely different backstory to the rest of our cast. Every expression is just pure distaste for Davis and it's so earned. He's so repulsive. Xu continues to play games, but is he fucking around too much and is very much about to find out? Now the narrative seems to be giving us reasons for Davis to be the shooter. Making him angry, taking what he is owed/promised. I can see his ego coming into play, but are things that simple? The last flash forward had Davis very calm in the face of what just happened. As deranged as he was with Brooke. Can't wait for more! Amazing as always Emory. ❤️

Ella Cherry

Wow, this was intense! I’m getting more curious about Mr. Xu with each chapter!

Jade Diaz

Yup. The banality of evil in Clinic 12 is a theme I’ve been banging the drum about for a while. It’s cool to see Jill stand up and say it out loud. But for real, Xu bitch slapping Davis was not on my bingo card. Also Jill’s whole dialog about how she is her own woman was magnificent. And I especially love the panel where Jill is giving side eye when Gina puts a “comforting” hand on Jill’s shoulder. Lmao.

SingularCurve

It is possible that Jill may turn this into a "Are you a trans girl that cant transition? Come to Butterfly Beach where we will help you transition. You might even find a sponsor for your life after transition, or even dare we say it... Love." kind of thing.

mdaily

Well! That's two big fuckin snaps for Miss Jill, right there!

Maggie Heels

I was hoping for such end of this story maaany phases earlier already... still hopes that to happen ❣️

SingularCurve

It reminds me of the difference between Grandmother's Dorley and Aunt Bea's Dorley. Yes different stories entirely, but still similar in how those women actualize.

Thomas Tolliver

Hmm. Lots of weaving to do. Hmmmmmm.

Jose Coces

It's Arendt's banality of evil all over again. Nice touch. ... Also, Davis' wrong. Jill's boobs aren't too big. They're huge and beautiful. And they seem to have gotten slightly bigger.

Diana O'Neil

Just WOW!!!! That is all I can say. Not much action but you just dropped a ton of drama, background, and story development on us. Jill is evolving beautifully as the heroine. Character and courage that is off the charts. Xu is interesting! I kind of expected him to be a James Bond International Super Villain type. But there is at times a grandfatherly quality that trickles out and a twisted moral code. I suspect he is far more complex than we have yet seen. But like I said, twisted. Far from a good guy, not an antihero, but still with an intention that may have started out good and and a moral code of his own making he still tries to abide by even if out of sync from the rest of humanity. Am curious to eventually learn his back story. Finally Davis, the real villain. But the knuckle dragging type, not the affluent James Bond super villain type. And a total a$$ hole and POS. There is nothing redeeming about him what so ever. Which of course makes hating him so easy. It is strange though, as another commented above, that aside from making money, Second Dawn seems to have a mission of removing and reforming destructive toxic masculine types from society and rehabilitating at least some of them as women, and consigning the rest to their fates as "Toy" that will at least keep them from destroying anyone else's life. So Davis, while a blunt instrument that may serve a purpose in the early phases of the program seem incongruous with the overall purpose and mission expressed by Xu and the Coven. In fact Davis would seem to be the poster child for the very "Toy" program that he runs. Irony!?! And his physical changes are noticed. May be a stretch to suggest Xu has already started him on a Jill style personalized hormone program without his knowledge. Though that would be fitting and maybe even part of Xu's plan for shutting down Second Dawn, at least in its current form and mission and retiring. But seeing Davis undergo the very same forced transition he put so many other toxic males through would have a high degree of justice and satisfaction. Though Jill's dialogue in the episode would suggest she would not be the person to impose such a sentence on him. Unless that is a final piece of Xu's plan for Jill's development? She has courage and wisdom. But can she make tough decisions in morally gray areas where black and white might allow evil to go unpunished? Though even so I don't see Jill making Davis the "Toy" that he might deserve to be, but giving him a "Second Dawn" as a "Companion". All I can say is that you have done it again! You have given us so much with 30 panels and yet left us not sated but starving for even more. Well done!

Diana O'Neil

@Emory Ahlberg, Because of the time between episodes I tend to go back and re-read prior episodes to make sure I am following all the facts, easter eggs, plot twists and such, and even just catch up on the background of so many diverse characters. One thing I notices is that Phase 9, Part 9 seems to be missing? We go from Phase 9 Part 8 to Phase 9 part 10. Is that intentional? Or is it just a technical error? Perhaps Part 10 is a double episode you meant to label as Part 9/10? I am kind of hoping not as I would love for there to be a "lost Part" we may soon discover. But completely understand if it was just a titling error.

Digi2288

I am eager to see what happened in the coming out dinner , and see Connor

Tim

It's there, Diana... https://www.patreon.com/posts/jack-jill-phase-111706578 Parts 7 & 8 were published together as a double issue followed by Parts 9 and later 10 as single issues. Perhaps the 7 & 8 issue caused some confusion?

"..something beauthiful in the ashes of who I used to be.." beautifully said Jill, you are our fighting phoenix with a strong moral compass as Mr. Xu said! Beautifully said Jill, you are our fighting phoenix with a strong moral compass as Mr. Xu said! I would like to see me Davis take revenge for removing his tongue, but without that, after all, he has enough reasons to take revenge on Mr. Xu! Maggie as for Jill I see a potentially strong conflict with Gina who would want to remove all the “bad guys” and turn them into toys, it is more likely that Jill will go what SingularCurve mentions, that it will be a “companion” program , maybe she will even do away with the “toys” department only why then Mr. Davis!! Beautiful chapter Emory! How are the preparations for Halloween Party 🎃! Witch beauties are coming 👻🧙‍♀️?

Female-Bosmer-Always

Muse Jade, you took the words right out of my mouth. As always, Muse Emory, your writing, illustration and dialogue have made me leap out of my chair with tears, joy and sorrow. Just watching Davis being put in his place made my heart leap with joy in my throat. And Xu, he came very tooting close to a wisp of morality.

ckarya

I'll wait to comment when you finish J&J's triad of chapters, though you'll leave us with a super cliffhanger again!!! hehehehe. Tic-Tac... time goes by and I'm still not unraveling who the gunslinger will be..... Good job!!! But... I'm still thinking about the photos on page 7 of the Phase 08-16, I think it's a 'crazy idea' of mine but.... ...Just like I'm still thinking about the jacket in Jessica's house from Half-Sisters....

Omagathief

Yes this is definitely a “who shot JR” plot here, which eventually we will find out but not before a whole lot of twists and turns and some well placed red herrings thrown in for good measure to keep us guessing 😅

Female-Bosmer-Always

Davis, you utterly repulsive, monstrous, amoral piece of complete human garbage. Four suicide attempts is not her being dramatic...and it's you breaking her. Summer Chastity Crowe©™ & Shunfen Xu©™: "-Mommy Kendra, you called for us? How may we serve you and Second Dawn?" Summer and Shunfen say in almost perfect unison in their angelic voices; noticing the bandages on her wrists. Summer kneels down, sets her guitar & case down; a Gibson Hummingbird made of mahogany, spruce and rosewood encased in oak, wool and velvet padding...a gift to Summer and Shunfen from Summer's grandparents, Senator Roger and Congresswoman Dee Dee Crowe. Mrs. Kendra Davis: "-Yes, darling angels. I wanted...I meant...I need...can you please play "I never wanted to be that girl" by Carly Pearce and Ashly McBryde? When you leave this place, your voices will put all those Nashville girls to shame. You and the rest of The Hatchlings." Kendra caressed Summer's and Shunfen's faces gently, maternally almost...her eyes haunted by a look of misery and regret. Summer and Shunfen kissed her bandages. Shunfen Xu©™: "-You shouldn't give them the satisfaction of watching you die, mommy. I love you, Summer loves you and we...understand...and forgive you. You didn't mean it...it was a just a flitting moment of rage. It wasn't your fault. Please don't hurt yourself anymore." Shunfen said as she took out her matching Gibson and they began to sing. Kendra afforded herself a smile as Shunfen's Southern accent was steadily improving...and their duet was perfect.

Gemma

Hmm. Ckarya, great observation, I have now just looked at the photo you mentioned and I too am now speculating on who it may be?

Diana O'Neil

Tim, thanks so much. After following your link I did remember this issue. But when I went looking for it under collections and Jack & Jill it is missing from there for some reason. Odd? But your links works so clearly it is on the page.

Tim

You're welcome, Diana. It sounds like you're a prime candidate to use the Google Sheet Emory and I created to find virtually all the content Emory has published on her site, and then some. I wonder if this puts Connor back into the hands of the sheikh? Can see Xu using the threat of giving him away to make Jill more compliant to whatever he has planned. Also interesting to get more insight into Xu's goals regarding Jill. Seems he wants her to be something like an archetypal "perfect woman" - physically beautiful, compassionate, lstrong morals, etc. Hard to tell just how much of Jill's development has really been her own and what has been orchestrated by Xu.

Nolwenn

Oo nice episode. And I tend to think that even if he is completly crazy, Davis isn't the most delusional guy in this room. He is a psychopathe and he know and assume that. He stand in his boot and know what he want and deserve ( kind of). And i think until now he completly didn't care if Xu treat him to become a woman. It not toxic masculinity he is just crazy. :) Kendra and the two others are completly some care bear. They live in a word where every thing is pink, it's kind of toxic feminity. Xu is crazy too. it's a butcher with good conscience and he doesn't assume his work. And he tend to give his job to others just to be less guilty. But Jill surprises me the most. She stays human. When every one in this room speak about connors, Brook and the australian surfer as beef meat buyable to Wallmarkt. Honestly I actually think and hope it's her who will shoot M. Xu.

Jade Diaz

Wait Shunfen is affecting an artificial southern accent now? 🧐

Jade Diaz

My head canon is that Davis’s sheikh is Davis getting catfished for lulz

Jade Diaz

We discussed Xu’s moral code before. He has one, but it’s not “moral” in the sense of unicorns and puppies.

ckarya

I correct my comment, now I think I have an idea of who the shooter might be...

Robertlouis

So much to reflect on after reading this episode, Emory. The first thing that struck me was the superficially civilised way that this Second Dawn committee comes together to decide the fate of toys and companions. It reminds me of the wash up sessions I used to do early in my HR career after assessment centres. So academic yet so horrific at the same time. And yes, everyone in the room and all of us loathe and hate Davis, but he’s useful to both the organisation and to the narrative because he anchors what’s happening in uncomfortable truth, as he should. He constantly reminds them of the base cruelty that they mete out daily to their charges, while they try to convince their consciences that what they’re doing is what’s best for their subjects/victims. And when Jill speaks her mind it is momentarily as almost an ally of Davis, in that she recognises his awful truth. Meanwhile Xu while admonishing Davis, surveys the scene and, as always, makes his own silent judgements. Whatever plan he has in mind for Jill, it isn’t hers, but fate has strange ways of making opposites collide. And while everything points to Davis eventually pulling that trigger, I’m pretty certain that it wasn’t him. It’s a far less likely but equally obvious source.
