Hello Patrons,

Late last night, I received an email from Patreon that Witch-Breaker, Part 1 "contains content that doesn't meet our Community Guidelines and has been hidden."

Specifically, they said:

Since there are zero "sexual acts" in the comic - and certainly none that glorify these things - I've emailed Patreon asking for an explanation.

That's odd. There are so many sexual contents in patreon, and it is not recent issue. And also sexual contents doesn't have any problem for adult! I don't understand what Patreon company intended. Why they are acting like a hypocrite?

I'm following at least 10 tg fiction creators on Patreon and there's a lot of sexual content, I'd be intrigued to know why they'd take this down specifically, very strange practise and one that can have knock on affects on their business because word gets around of these kinds of actions.....

A few years ago i had over 20 stories posted on Fictionmania. Someone complained about 1 story that involved a 15 year old boy being put into chastity no sex was in the story. When i complained to FM they deleated all my stories,

The "justification" language they cited falls under the subheading, "Sexual Violence" on the Community Guidelines page. While this is clearly intended to be a prohibition against depictions of violent non-consensual sex acts, citing rape, sexual assault and coerced consent as examples, I can only imagine that some misguided Patreon employee or bot interpreted a painful transformation sequence to fall within the meaning of sexual violence. Sajen, the Moon-Singer, announces in panel 48 that "Yes, you will need to endure much pain" at the onset of Kazimir's transformation. This is followed by several panels showing Kazimir in obvious pain as his body is magically rearranged. Is that "sexual violence?" I know this makes no sense, Emory, but I can't conceive of any other explanation for why Patreon would remove your post.

Emory, do you know the SimVenusArts comic "My Classmate Emma Lindberg"? I think there are more sexual acts and a greater likelihood of encountering sexual acts, as Patreon wrote to you, you can encounter coerced consent in the form of manipulation used or attempted by the title character, I've been following this content since the first chapters and we already have chapter 41 and somehow Patreon didn't object or the creator doesn't tell the patrons? What do they have against you? Maybe it's some kind of attack by the competition🙄?

So sorry Emory. What a shock, I don’t get it!? I hope you are okay? So many of us behind you and thinking of you. I do hope you are able to get some clarification and are able to sort things out. I agree the ‘calls’ that this wrong call is either ai automation generated error or that of some ill informed misguided Patreon employee. Take care.

I’m both astonished and appalled on your behalf, Emory, largely because the main reason I follow your art and writing so enthusiastically is that if anything they don’t rely on overt sex and titillation, but on strong character development, careful narrative growth in each tale and a sophisticated web of relationships that pulls all the elements together. It’s a far more mature approach than that adopted by most artists and authors, and Patreon’s actions therefore strike me as petty in the extreme.

If it is these "learning scripts" (lets face it there is no AI actually out there, what currently exists is on the level of single cell bacterium vs a genius level human) that is causing you these problems, then the learning scripts must go. Frankly I think what everyone is calling "AI" needs to go because though it is artificial there is no intelligence in or behind it, including all the humans that want to use this technology. It is in a pre infancy state and should still be firmly locked behind air gapped R&D firewalls

Easiest solution: encrypt the PDF (ugly, might not work with all readers) or ZIP it before uploading (that should work everywhere) with a password. 7Zip can AES encrypt files, that is a common way and should work with all tastes of OSes. Share the password -> problem solved -> no human or AI censor can read that without the password. As these systems are most likely automated, you should be good. This is how I get around our corporate mail-gateway all the time.

You most likely hit a content guard, some kind of automated check and these tend to fail, as even the best image detection algorithm can misclassify stuff. I work in AI R&D in the field of cyber offense/defense and we had our fair share of stuff that was completely misclassified, from images down to code which the AI thought to be something pornographic. Its highly advanced stochastics but stochastics nonetheless so this "shit" can fail and it will eventually, garbage in, garbage out is real ;).

Unfortunately, I've not heard back from Patreon. Other creators have told me that it can take weeks. So, for now, the series is paused. I don't want to post "Part 2" and suddenly have two strikes for reasons that I can't understand. But I'll have something else fun for tomorrow!
