Can you tell us a little about your plans for the new Kanji deck that is mentioned with Japan specific content? Is it a reorganized RRTK or something fairly different?

How do you fix your model of the language when you started reading long before you listened at all? I had to read French for 4 years in high school, but we didn't listen at all to any spoken language besides our teacher. I'm still in his class and I can tell that his accent is really, really terrible now that I've been doing immersion for around 4-5 months. Am I at risk to long term damage due to hundreds of hours of bad sub-vocalization? What would you do to remedy it?

How do I go about learning the meaning of sentences correctly without using any english subtitles as a reference? For example the sentence: 人と比べた順位だけが 結果じゃない I originally interpreted this sentence as meaning "only comparing your rank to other people isn't a true result", but then when I checked the english subtitles they say "Those comparisons aren't the only measure". So basically I completely misinterpreted the direction だけ was intended for. If I hadn't used the english subtitles, I would have thought that I understood this sentence when in reality I did not. Doesn't this end up making me build bad habits of misunderstanding sentences?

Hey Matt, I was wondering roughly how long should it take to finish an episode while doing the new "Intensive Immersion". I know this can vary wildly depending on lots of factors, but I'm asking this because I just did around 30 minutes of it in the first episode of Toradora (rewatching it for the n-th time), and I only got about 4 minutes in. This wasn't really a problem as I didn't get bored, but I'm wondering if I'm taking too long trying to make sense of the sentences? Or is this okay? For reference I'm still very new, still two thirds of the way through the N5 Tango deck, so I'm not even sure I'm supposed to be doing this type of immersion now, or if I should just be doing free flow immersion, but I decided to try it. TL;DR: Am I taking too long doing the Intensive Immersion, or is it okay as long as I don't get bored? Am I trying to soon, or again, it's okay as long as it doesn't affect my enjoyment? Edit: Also, should I be looking at the translation provided by "Language Learning With Netflix" for the whole phrase, or only at the translation of each word? Thank you! Hey Matt - do you have any advice or tips for someone who essentially wants to do Anki but as an audio only form? No pass or fail, just words followed either by a TL definition or an example that makes it obvious. My plan is to save each word and definition or example as a short MP3 and then set my phone to shuffle them while In exercise. I've realised that this is probably the most realistic way that I can keep up a vocab building habit, since I don't mind listening to this while I run or drive. Specifically what I mean is: Is there anything you'd recommend that is well suited to capturing this kind of thing and turning it into an MP3 automatically or something? Thanks.

Any advice on making Anki cards for words made of the exact same characters, but with different pronunciation? My specific case is with Hebrew, there are no vowel letters, so two words can look the same but have many vowel variations (I’m not familiar but maybe there is a similar case with kanji) how would I make the front of the card so I can differentiate between similar looking words with different vowels?

I often find that reviewing sentence cards is a 2 step process: 1) I first remember the English meaning of the target word by the context 2) I then go from the English meaning to the Japanese meaning Since step 2 is EN-&gt;JP, it has helped with output but my kanji reading ability has started to stagnate. Any advice?

What do you think of the Japanese Core 6000 - iKnow sentences? I find the voice acting more pleasant to listen to than the Tango decks, so I started using some of their audio sentences as 1T sentences.

I got fascinated with massive immersion, and I want to improve my stronger TL(fluent) using massive immersion, specifically verbal communication(accent) and lexicon. Currently, I use my stronger TL everyday(relocated), and I almost don't use my NL. However, I want to learn second language using Refold. What do you think is the best way to go about it?

I'm finding your question a bit confusing. Reviewing sentences cards should be great for kanji reading ability (as, you need to read a full sentence in full kanji in order to pass the card).

Sometimes I only remember a kanji because I remember the context, the phrase in which it appeared. Often when I see the same kanji in another context, I forget how to read it, how can I improve it?

Hey Matt, if you're feeling very low on motivation, and even with mnemonics you struggle to grade like a quarter of your cards correctly, do you think it's fine to go at a lower pace and have days where you only review cards and not learn new ones?
