2月あっという間に終わってしまいましたね。

私が本格的にpixivへの投稿を始めたのが2023年の3月なので、約1年が経ったことになります。本当にあっという間の1年間でした。こうして続けてこられたのも、皆さまのご支援のおかげです。ありがとうございます。

この1年で技術は進歩しAIイラストの全体のクオリティは上がり続けていますが、私は最初期に少しモデルチェンジをしただけでAI的にはずっとほぼ同じ古いものを使い続けています。理由はいくつかありますが、①次々と新しい技術が出てくるので追い続けることに魅力を感じなかったから②道具としての生成AIがなんであるかを一定期間同じものを触ることで感じ取りたかった③道具として手に馴染ませたかったなどがあります。

ただ1年間触ってきたことでだいぶ手に馴染んでわかってきましたし、最新の技術との差も大きくなってきたので、そろそろ新しいものも試し始めようかと思っています。今まで出せなかったようなイラストを出せたり、これまで歩留まりが低かったようなシチュエーションも効率よく出せたらいいなあと思っていますが、正直どうなるか分かりません。試すだけになるかもしれませんが、出したいイラストを明確にして少しずつアップデートできたらなあと思っている2年目の今日この頃です。

この1年の間に考えていたことは以前にもチラッと書きかけていましたが、主に「ノイズ」のことについてです。それについては別記事で1年のまとめとして3月中に残せればと思っています。

そもそも私がAIイラストを触り始めたのは、趣味の写真がちょっとしたスランプに陥ったことがきっかけでした。始めた当初はどこかで自分の写真も含めて皆さまに楽しんでもらえたらと思っていたのですが、なかなか難しそうで一旦そのことについては考えるのをやめていました。

実は去年の年末頃から少しずつまた写真が思うように撮れるようになってきています。そして3月から6月頃まで、新しく写真を教わりにいけることになりました。提出する作品の数も多く、プリント代だけでもかなりお金もかかりそうです。なので気合を入れて取り組みたいと思っています。それによってAIイラストをやめるとかそういうことではなく、写真にはあまり興味のない方にも面白いと思っていただけるような作品を撮ってここでお見せしたいと思っているのでその予告のようなものです。せっかく大きなプリントも作るので気に入ってくださる方がいればお送りして部屋に飾ってほしいなとも妄想していますが、まずはそれに見合う作品を作れるよう頑張ってきます。

旅のワクワク感のようなものをイラストを見ることで感じてほしいという意図もある私のAIイラストですが、最近旅っぽいイラストが少しだけ減っているように感じています。私が最近あまり旅できておらず、他のものからワクワクを摂取することを覚えたからなのかなあとも思っています。暖かくなってきたらまた旅に出て旅ビタミンを摂取し、旅っぽいイラストもやります。もし急に更新止まったら旅のお土産を期待しててください。

色々書きましたが、2年目もこれまでと変わらず少しずつ良い方に変えながら続けていければと思っています。

Over this year, while the overall quality of AI-generated illustrations has improved, I've mostly stuck with the same old model I slightly modified at the beginning. There are a few reasons for this: 1) New technologies emerge so rapidly that I didn't find chasing after them appealing, 2) I wanted to understand what it meant to use a generative AI as a tool by consistently using the same one for a period, and 3) I wanted to become comfortable and familiar with it as a tool. Having used it for a year, I've grown accustomed to it and understand it much better now.

However, as the gap between the latest technology and what I've been using widens, I'm thinking of starting to experiment with new tools. I hope to create illustrations I couldn't before and manage situations more efficiently that previously had a low success rate, though honestly, I don't know how it will turn out. It might just be an experiment, but as I start my second year, I'm hoping to clarify what I want to create and gradually update my approach.

I've hinted at this over the past year, but my main focus has been on the concept of "noise." I plan to delve into this topic in a separate post as a summary of the year, sometime in March.

My initial foray into AI illustrations was triggered by hitting a slump with my photography hobby. At the start, I hoped to entertain you all with my photos as well, but that proved to be quite challenging, and I temporarily put that idea aside. Recently, however, I've been getting back into photography, and from March to June, I'll be learning more about it. I have to submit a number of works, and the cost of printing alone will be significant. Therefore, I'm determined to tackle this with full effort. This doesn't mean I'll stop creating AI illustrations. In fact, I aim to produce interesting photographs that even those not particularly interested in photography will enjoy, and I look forward to sharing them here. It's a bit of a preview, and if anyone likes the large prints I'll be making, I fantasize about sending them out to be displayed in your rooms. But first, I need to create works worthy of that.

My AI illustrations often aim to evoke the excitement of travel, but I've noticed a slight decrease in travel-themed pieces recently. Perhaps it's because I haven't been traveling much lately and have learned to find excitement in other things. As the weather warms up, I plan to travel more, gather some "travel vitamins," and return to creating travel-themed illustrations. If my updates suddenly stop, you can look forward to some travel souvenirs.

As I write this, I'm looking forward to continuing to make gradual improvements in my second year, just as I have been.
