Me personally, I see nothing wrong with the contract offer. What Subaru would get: 1) Echidna’s help to figure out the best path to get the best outcome each time, sacrifices may or may not happen depending what the situation is. The “best” outcome is identified based on what Subaru wants. 2) Access to all of Echidna’s knowledge (which is immense. She is just a sage of wisdom, the only reason she was classified as a witch of greed is probably because there was a situation where she had to make some sacrifices to get some knowledge she wanted). Her Greed is ONLY for knowledge. She doesn’t desire anything material/physical. 3) Possibly minimize having to return by death because of the help. What Echidna wants: 1) To be able to witness to all the progress Subaru makes. She wants to be able to feel what Subaru feels in all situations, what he thinks, everything basically.(This DOES NOT mean that she would take over Subaru. Echidna has no understanding of feelings/emotion. She wants to see what causes what emotion in Subaru to maybe help her understand emotions better). Subaru is so against Sacrifices, he doesn’t realize that there have been MANY casualties because of him already. Does he think nobody died in the whale fight? Or how about in the fight with betelgeuse? Every time there is any sort of big fight, sacrifices WILL happen. Whether he accepts the contract or not, there will be times when sacrifices happen. Whether he chooses to ignore them or not doesnt mean they never happen/happened. Subaru himself is also greedy because he wishes to do everything it takes to save only who HE wants to save. What about the rest? Naw fuck them. In a way he could be considered to be a follower of greed because of how greedy he is. The thing with Beatrice..ye that’s kinda fucked up. Echidna had no reason to word it as if there is a specific person Beatrice needs to wait for. She should have just said that Beatrice should choose someone she believes to be worthy. She would have probably gotten the same result because Beatrice probably wouldnt have given it to anybody in 400 years(most guests just come and go rather quick).

Yeah, I haven’t read it, but I got the impression from Echidna that she would have Subaru for through every possible scenario with his RBD before he’d get his “optimal” route. She’s completely deranged and wants to know ALL things, she wouldn’t just let him go on the quickest and safest route lol. Look at what she did to Betty, torturing her with 400 years of isolation to satisfy her curiosity. She isn’t outright malicious, but either doesn’t comprehend the full weight of her curiosity or just doesn’t care about the human price. She wants to seduce Subaru and convince him that the only path forward is with her. To Echidna, Subaru is the holy grail, and she can completely satisfy her curiosity with his ability. Every possible scenario can be played out forever by combining Return by Death and her knowledge. It’s why she is drawn to him, not because of who he is, but because of the power he possesses. It is literally the ultimate goal and she spends the entire arc trying to cozy up to Subaru so he’ll accept the contract without questioning it too much.

Yea true Subaru wouldn’t like that. Honestly having such mental fortitude I’d even be ok with that, if that were the case, because it shouldn’t rlly matter. In the end you will get the outcome you want 🤷‍♂️ Subaru wouldn’t have to worry about ever going insane if he has Echidna with him. She already saved him twice from going insane so she could always keep him sane in the process. To me it still doesnt seem like a bad deal 🤷‍♂️ he is gonna fuck up sometimes anyway and have to deal with diff outcomes. Might as well have someone that can help u from losing it and know the correct path

I understand her wording, not that hard to read past the wording specially at the end when she reveals everything. Just imo id take the deal. Then again I think in a similar way. Im a very curious person and like to know/learn things. In the end, im getting what I want and in the process I know I will be safe because Echidna can keep me sane/mentally stable(if I were to ever get to the point where she needs to help stabilize me).

I think you'd have to be insane to take that offer. No offense but it seems like you're really not understanding how big of an issue the "In the end" portion of that deal is. Look at Echidna's treatment of Betty and how she feels about it. How many countless lives where Subaru goes through the most horrendous suffering do you think he'd have to go through to quench her thirst for knowledge? It's more or less agreeing to an almost eternity of torture OF ANY KIND. And it's not a question of if you'll get to the point where she'll have to stabilize you. You will guaranteed be getting to that point (perhaps countless times if she can continuously stabilize you) because she's gonna put you through the ringer purposely. Not maliciously, simply to sate her curiosity. Really think about that because when i say countless, I do mean COUNTLESS.

That’s why I said Subaru wouldn’t like that. In a previous comment. Me personally though, ME if I was in Subaru’s position with MY own way of thinking and way I am. Id take the offer. The way Subaru is I can understand why HE wouldnt accept it. He seems to have strong mental fortitude but a relatively weak will. I personally would like to have Echidna’s deal if it was me though. I wouldn’t mind repeating things over and over to see different outcomes. Im the type who, even if I was alone, would want to go through all the possible outcomes even if I figured out or knew the correct path to take already.

See Im fine with mental pain/torture but all those physical pains..no thx 😂 Im pretty sure (like 95% sure) that Echidna has something to nullify the pain doe 🤔 whether its magic or some sort of medicine. She definitely has something cause she probably looked into nullifying physical pain at some point. She’s like a Sage! She has the most knowledge in the entire world! Absolutely definitely gotta have something for that!

She wants to know everything, and if I understand that "in the end" logic, forming a contract with her would be hell. If you were locked in a castle with 100 doors, 99 of which will cause your death upon being opened... she'd want you to experience it 100 times to see what's behind each door. Normally, that wouldn't be possible because you have a 99% chance of dying, but with Subaru's power... she can gain the knowledge by making him die over and over again. No thank you.
