Wilhelm isnt an astrea by blood, his wife is an astrea which made him take the astrea name because he became part of the family through her. The astrea family is known as the family with masterful swordsmen, Wilhelm’s wife was THE master swordman of the family, she was the bossss 😂 You’ll learn more about the whale later, things like about it’s smoke and why it definitely WOULDNT be friendly towards them even if they hadn’t attacked.

Its interesting you guys still think that whenever he talks down on himself its cos he's fishing for compliments from Rem. His rant to Rem last episode strongly indicates that no... this is legit what he thinks of himself. It what he's believed about himself all along from even before he came to this world. He condemns himself as a completely weak, pathetic worthless loser who spent his life doing nothing meaningful. That low self esteem is the core of his insecurities and what drove his toxic hero complex mentality. He hates himself. I love this detail about his character. Because it shows that his self hatred is so deep rooted that its ridiculous to believe "One" pep talk from Rem is gonna make those feelings go away. He's moving forward and progressing as a person now for sure.. but yeeah his issues are long lasting and will take a long time to overcome.

REMEMBER! To watch "Frozen Bonds" OVA after you finish season 1 and if your 3rd member who would join for season 2 hasn't seen it make her join for that reaction already. There is another OVA that is optional for you called "Memory Snow" which takes place between episode 12 and 13, it's not a must watch. But seeing it does give some little bit more insight to some of our main characters for this show.

I feel like saying he is grandfather is a small spoiler as that has never been revealed at any point in anime. Lot of speculation before you gave that knowledge for me was that he might be even father of Reinhardt, but honestly that was my assumption too as Reinhardt is too young to be the son.

Subaru isn’t lusting after Emilia or in love with her simply because she is beautiful. Some of their interactions are abbreviated in the show but: - Emilia saves him when he is being mugged, despite having something EXTREMELY important to her stolen, mere moments before - Emilia helps the daughter find her mom in every reset. - Emilia goes out of her way to make Subaru not feel like he needs to help her find her insignia. Tries to even scare him off by calling herself “Satella” - Emilia makes time for him at the mansion despite being busy preparing for the Royal Selection. - Emilia chooses to trust Subaru and protect him when Rem dies and Ram threatens him. - Emilia comforts him, listens to him, and worries about him when he makes himself sick trying to overwork himself Subaru has been beaten down, killed, looked down on, and treated harshly by near everyone in the show, but Emilia is the one person who constantly treats him with kindness and warmth. She always does in every loop he has been in.

@Thamor - Agreed. There was clearly a connection (same last name), but we didn't know HOW they were related. I kinda assumed it was a big family, so maybe Wilhelm was an uncle or great uncle. It doesn't feel like a huge spoiler, but I still would have preferred to learn this organically.

Well said. And on top of all that, people on the Rem side of things tend to forget that her love of Subaru is seemingly borne of an aspect of himself only possible through RbD - (imo) thus his negative reaction to her confession in From Zero, rather than joy. I always felt he, being so self-critical, couldn't help but at least feel a little that Rem's feelings are wrong to take advantage of.
