This might be one of the most frustrating setup episodes of all time lol. On one hand it’s super frustrating seeing Subaru being one upped by all these people, on the other hand he’s not seeing clearly and seeing the advice in front of him. Though I understand the suffering clouds the mind.

Some things to help explain events and actions of others: (without spoilers) 1) Subaru and Rem left earlier than usual, maybe like a whole day or two earlier?(u can tell because in the last life when he was heading to the mansion with Otto, the white whale smoke was already up and they had to take a detour) - Now id like to again emphasize that everyone surrounding Subaru is actually nice in their own(the least nice one would be the stuck up orange hair princess) 1) Crusch is the type to seem like she wants stuff in return but she is willing to do things for others sometimes. Crusch, she believed him and would have helped if Subaru had negotiated better/said things better. She already believed what he was saying she just dragged it on to see how Subaru reacts and he definitely did not react the way Crusch would want. The things Subaru did in the past and the way he is acting out of rage made crusch not want to help. He was fully being selfish in this current life because he wants to kill the witch’s cult and saving Emilia is second to him now. Saving Emilia is no longer his priority but still is using it as an excuse to try to get others helps. He kept saying to help him help him to kill the cult but never “I want to save Emilia.” Its all just me me me me. 2) Priscilla is definitely the most asshole out of everyone(at least thats the way she acts). What she hates is people that have no loyalty, and probably peasants. Anyway she tested Subaru by telling him that he if rlly needs help then forget ur pride, forget that u serve another master and lick my feet. Had Subaru stood his ground and not tried to lick her foot then there could have been a chance that she would have helped. 3) The lil Anastasia is a negotiator. She will provide what you need in return for either information or something of more value. She taught Subaru the basics of negotiation and basically told him why he failed. All he does is want and want but he cant give things that others want in return. All Anastasia wants is information and money. Subaru could have gave up some info on crusch or priscilla and asked for the help of her Army BUT he f that up by asking for carriages instead. Anastasia still got her info but Subaru got less than what he could have potentially gotten. Also Anastasia knows what Julius was trying to do and you see that she mentions that before leaving. She mentions that it seems that Julius efforts were for nothing because Subaru is still not changing and is blind by his own greed and pride, he cant see all the advice being thrown at him. Poor Julius 🥲 Basically this whole episode is to show all these flaws that Subaru has deep within. He is selfish (we seen this even before this episode when he tried bring up yo emilia that she owes him for all the times “he saved” her.), He is quick to surrender and bow his head down to others, He is ignorant, lastly, he is stupid.
