Idk if you missed it but Rimuru himself already said that Hinata is much more stronger than he is. She would have beat him even without the barrier he also said. The reason for the barrier is because they are from our world remember. When we play games to fight against monsters/bosses, we try to put as many debuffs on them in order for us to beat them. They are basically using their game knowledge and put up a barrier that weakens monsters just as a pre caution, incase the monsters are stronger than them.

We humans can be wretched things

Love the sound effects for Hinata's fight, especially Disentagration. Rimuru in trouble at the start =( Happy opening =) Rimuru still in trouble and city is burning =(

A lot of people felt bad for the named characters, but I felt more sad for the goblin mob characters. They were Rimuru's first followers too.

Rimuru is notorious for underestimating himself and what he is capable of. This makes snese because of how crazy quickly he grown more powerful, but makes him an unreliable narrator in times like this. If Rimuru goes all out from the beginning and actually tries to kill Hinata, they're probably about even at this point in the series. Hinata is high Demon Lord Seed level at this point, same as Rimuru. We know this because she is absolutely no match for Awakened Demon Lords like Luminous and has trouble defeating her stand ins, Louis and Roy. Hinata seems so overwhelmingly skillful because of her other unique skill "Mathematician", which Rimuru has a perfect counter for (Great Sage) if he actually uses it. What many people seem to discount is how overwhelming of an advantage Hinata had in this fight. She caught him off guard and erected a barrier that significantly weakened him, on top of that he is not fighting to kill but she is. We can see just how significant of an effect her barrier had when we compare it to the barrier set up by the church over Tempest. That barrier made Hakuro significantly weaker than the human with the sword but we see later that outside the barrier he is way way way stronger. And this barrier erected by the church is much less effective than the one Hinata and Rimuru were fighting in. And despite all of this, she fails and Rimuru survives. Hinata believes in using as little strength as possible to defeat her enemies. And despite that she still pulled out Disintegration against this heavily weakened Rimuru. (Again, did not kill him) So taking that one off line of Rimuru underestimating himself like he usually does is not the best thing to base how an actual fight between them would go, considering all the other information we have as context.
