based on how daemon is described in the book it isn't OOC but based on how the writers built him up all through season 1, this did seem very OOC so it's not surprising viewers who haven't read the book would be confused by this. Yes, the writers of the series make it clear Daemon can be cruel and is very morally grey and will do what he wants to get what he wants, but up until this moment we as viewers knew him to have a soft spot for his family, especially Viserys and Rhaenyra who he seemed to never want to hurt.

Laena had the largest dragon that's currently alive, Vhagar, who Aemond is now binded to after Laena's death, so that's one of the biggest issues as the greens have the largest dragon, who's been to war because Vhagar was alive during Aegon's conquest when him and his sisters took over the seven kingdoms hundreds of years prior

By the way guys, you're mixing two characters up. The bald guy who tried to escape and got hung last episode isn't the Commander (We haven't seen him since the table scene). The guy who got hung was Lord Caswell (Head of House Caswell). If you remember episode 6 as Rhaenyra walks up the staircase to take her newborn to Alicent, he asks her if he can be of assistance in anyway.
