About flowers, they do play artistic role through entire season I would say. As she often explains even stuff trough flowers. Also would recommend that you check out the OP song with titles.

What a gorgeous looking episode. And now we’re getting into the meat of jinshi and maomao’s dynamic and the tension for both. Maomao is so smart, analytical, and has a sense of justice but she has to balance that against the danger she is surrounded by given her commoner status. We hardly ever see jinshi think about status when it comes to Maomao. And even though she knows how and why people act in certain ways because of their emotions, Maomao seems to have a hard time getting an accurate read of certain people, or maybe certain emotions. Like when she’s asking jinshi to execute her with poison and she interprets his expression of obvious concern as “whoops looks like I really stepped in it this time”. Kinda strange! And for jinshi, there’s probably a reason why his advisor Gaoshun thinks about Maomao as jinshi’s toy. We don’t really see jinshi with other people aside from when he’s rizzing randos as he does his job. Compare to Maomao who already has friends around the palace that she sees all the time.
