The implication with Roswaal swapping vessels as I've interpreted it is that he's been taking over the bodies of his children for generations, hence asking Betty if she would condemn him as some inhuman monster.

Hope you enjoyed the finale of Re: Zero season 2! I’m sure you all still have plenty of questions, some of which may be unable to be answered due to future plot reasons, whereas others may have been glossed over or not explained well enough, but I still hope you all enjoyed it and are interested in future seasons! I will clarify some little things that aren’t too touched on, more so on Roswaal really, such as Roswaal (L Mathers) being the same as the first Roswaal (A Mathers). You saw it last episode, where he was researching and mentioning ‘copying a soul’ in the forbidden library, but it’s kinda glossed over in this. The exacts of how Roswaal does this is to ensure the host he transfers the soul to has a soul or body very similar to his own…Aka, his family. He’s been sacrificing members of his family and body snatching them all in an effort to live longer. He’s done this to Cousins, Branch Family Members - even his own Children in past lives. It’s absolutely unforgivable, and he’s absolutely gotten off lightly, but he is a necessity to Emilia’s bid to be the next Ruler of the Kingdom, so they can’t exactly jail him or tell everyone. As for the Echidna in the tomb, you were (probably) right initially where you thought it was someone else it’s most likely a different Echidna than the one in the Castle of Dreams (where we’ve usually encountered Echidna). There’s…a lot of suspicion regarding this, and a lot of theory crafting, but we don’t really know too much at this moment. It’s possible it might just be an older version of her, but it’s something even the novel readers are debating and don’t really have an answer for (yet). Next thing to be discussed was just the conversation Subaru and Roswaal had at the ceremony. Again it’s glossed over really quickly and not clarified too well, but if you got threatening vibes from that conversation, you were right too lol. Roswaal is essentially saying ‘Yeah, you won today, but watch your back’. The actual thing he mentioned in the novels from cut dialogue was that should one person that Subaru wished to protect die, Roswaal will basically punish him by killing everyone else and allowing his own soul to burn in hell, forcing Subaru to live by his ideals of wanting to save everyone and not backing out. It’s more or less Roswaal clarifying that he’s still going to help, it’s just that he’s forcing Subaru to live without sacrificing anyone, as Subaru proved unwilling to commit to that choice…the silver lining is that Roswaal still doesn’t understand how Subarus ability works - sure, he knows he can loop, just not the exacts of how it works - that Subaru needs to die to use it. If he did, well…the Author is on record saying Subaru would have died a lot, looot more…granted, maybe not as painfully as devoured alive lmao, but still - you can see why it’s partially a good thing Subaru can’t talk about RbD. And it’s not mentioned at the end, but the thing Emilia talked to Subaru about in her room was the stuff in the trial - Geuse, Fortuna - and yes, Pandora. So Subaru is now aware of Pandora - I don’t know if he knows Geuse = Betelgeuse, I doubt it, but you never know lol, but it’s just some minor information that Emilia obvs trusts Subaru enough to tell him this stuff - and maybe hints that Subaru could eventually meet Pandora and know to be wary of her. Also, for some clarification, Beatrice is more Subaru’s little sister rather than love interest, both of them love each other purely platonically - their relationship is akin to what Betty’s and Roswaal’s used to be like back when it was Roswaal A Mathers. So the only (valid) love interests for Subaru at the end of this season are still Emilia and Rem, so no need to worry xD. And lastly some of the stuff you questioned at the end that I haven’t addressed yet, mainly ages tbh lol but - Otto is 20 by the end of Season 2, Subaru is 17 still, and we do get a confirmed rough age of Emilia - however the conversation she and Subaru were meant to have in her room was cut, but she confirmed that she had been frozen in ice for 100 years, meaning her age is around 110 ~ 120 or so, so finally got an answer to Emilia’s age lol. Still, hope you all enjoyed! Apologies for the block of text, season finale info dump I guess. Hope you all are looking forward to season 3!

Eh, I doubt it, the anime has already cut out some very important season 3 information, it’s defo stuff they’d include in a Directors Cut of Season 2 should they ever make that, but the way Season 3 will start will likely not be covering stuff that shoulda been in Season 2, especially with context of when Season 3 takes place. The stuff discussed is already stuff the audience knows, the only difference now is now Subaru is at least aware of it, which, admittedly, is a minor thing.

Betty is like a lil sis to Subaru, Puck used too much mana so nap time, Roswaal was transferring his soul into family members for 400 years, Echidna is a mystery, and the oath seal curse is from the bet Subaru n Roswaal made in the episode STRAIGHT BET. Think thats it lol

I dont like Subaru’s mentality of “save everyone or else I reset.” Imagine if his ability is just transferring him to an alternate timeline/world where he can redo his mistake, he’s essentially giving up on so many worlds and leaving them to suffer just so he can have his little happy ending. I don’t know if a time will ever come where he will ended needing to sacrifice someone or cant save someone but knowing how the show is, I think it is highly likely. Ye that soul transferring roswaal sounds kinda messed up lol unless he let the family members know and allowed them to accept. I hope he wasnt just forcing them down and transferring himself but then again that would be something Roswaal would do. He’s so emotionally attached to Echidna.

Roswaal’s only goal is just to bring Echidna back 🥲 He definitely made a lot of fucked up choices but the show does a good job at showing what any human being would be willing/capable of doing for their loved one. Roswaal is also equally as stupid as Subaru doe. They are both two idiots on the opposite side of a coin. One wanting to save everyone, while the other wanting to save a single person even if he has to sacrifice everyone else. Btw there at the end I think Roswaal was saying that Subaru is his only way to accomplish his goal of reuniting with Echidna, also the “you won this time” thing is just the situation he won. He’s basically just trying to say “alright let’s do it your way but are you going to be able to win (with Subaru’s ‘save all’ mentality) the next time something big happens? Subaru’s mentality of wanting to save everyone is not realistic, Roswaal’s mentality of thinking that he needs to sacrifice a lot is also not good. Echidna is probably the only one smart enough to be able to know how many will need sacrifice in order to save more of a majority. She saved the hundreds(maybe thousands?) in the sanctuary from Hector by putting up a barrier that only required one person to power it and that one person was willing to do that because she also wanted to protect everyone. This isnt confirmed but I have a hunch she created the great spirit Puck since Betty says that Echidna created her. At the end they also said “Great Spirit Beako(Subaru’s nickname for Betty). So Echidna created Betty and possibly Puck, two great spirits powerful enough to save the world (or end it if they deem it necessary, like in that reality where Puck was about to freeze the entire world). Who knows if she created other great spirits? It all just looks to me like Echidna was preparing for something big to fight against.

lol, you’re absolutely right and entitled not to like it, it’s 100% unhealthy. One of Subaru’s many issues stems down to his own lack of value about himself, as well as numerous other issues - one of the most glaring ones being a severe martyr complex where he is trying - and succeeding - in sacrificing himself to achieve the ending he desires. Sure, he might now try not to thanks to Satella’s words, but even with the ending he is striving for usually being the best one where everyone survives (which we cannot fault him for wanting that), however Roswaal and Echidna (in the castle of dreams) called him out on that, calling it exceptionally Greedy. Of course, we don’t know the reality of RbD - if he actually goes back in time or if he switches worlds, but no matter what, Subaru has ultimately come to the decision that there are those he is unwilling to lose, and should they die, he will now be punished for it, thus ensuring him more suffering. I like to think, and this is just a character analysis kinda thing, but just like Minerva said, his type of thinking makes him just as, if not more, twisted and vile as a witch. As for what you suggested, we’ll have to wait and see - I’m a novel reader so I cannot say anything, but I can assure you you’re in for an amazing time as the show goes on. And lol, yeeeah it’s…pretty dark. I’m fairly certain the family members are 100% unwilling participants, they’re all usually young, healthy and a bright future ahead of them, I don’t really think they’d willingly sign up for that lol. The best I can see him doing is perhaps tricking them into it, but regardless of how it was done, it doesn’t change what he did, and as he said, he’s quite a monster for it.

Not true, Subaru does not know anything about Pandora. Remember, Pandora authority is still in full effect, Emilia never broke out of it. She still doesn't mention anything regarding the seal or Pandora when she talked to Subaru.

In the Re Zero Web Novel - Arc 4: Final Chapter: A Nonsense Dance, Under the Moonlight, it explicitly states that Emilia told Subaru about her childhood, including Fortuna, Juice and the day the witch cult attacked - even name dropping Pandora in that description, it’s just content that didn’t make the cut, but is canon. So yes Subaru does know about Pandora.

Dunno what to tell you, if you’ve read the web novel I’d recommend rereading that chapter again as it states Emilia is telling Subaru the story about the trial - including Juice and Fortuna’s tragedy - which Pandora is kinda important for that. Also, Emilia can now remember Pandora - that’s how the trial works, it ‘fills in the blanks’ so to say. It shows that with how Garf heard his mother’s last words before she left him, it’s Echidna’s tome of wisdom filling missing events in. So while Emilia can’t remember the events exactly - she now does remember Pandora.

No worries - there’s defo differences between all 3 - WN, LN, and Anime, so I wager there’s likely some differences with the scene, I mean the anime straight up cut it out lmao, but cut content is still viable, especially with Re: Zero. And yup! Fully caught up on the novel as well as what you’re mentioning if it’s what I think it is…I’m both sad and happy about it, as it shows Tappei is willing to commit to certain narrative choices, but still sucks, but just makes it all the more impactful. Re zero fans will be eating good lol
