I sit up from the futon with a quiet yawn, wiping an eye as I feel totally refreshed.

Aches and pains remain, but that's fine. I slept really good.

I guess that's what almost thirty hours straight of remaining awake will do to you.

I look to the sheathed sword lain beside my bed, then to the prone form of Linkle laying a short distance away on her own futon.

I lay back down and decide to skim through the quest I had completed yesterday.

Traveling in style:
Walking just isn't cutting it, it's clear you'll need something with a little more... horse power...
Objective:
walk up to a wild horse and tame it: [x]
Reward: 1000 Exp

The road to Kakariko is long and arduous, your journey will take you through ruin, wilderness, and by enemy encampments. Try not to die on the way!
Objective:
Reach your destination: [x]

Reach Kakariko in 24 Hours (00:00:00) [-]
Reach Kakariko in 48 Hours (22:32:52) [x]
Reach Kakariko in 72 Hours (46:32:52) [x]

Reward: 2500 Exp
Bonus Reward: 3000 Exp, one item from the shop worth up to 4000 Gold Pieces, 1 free spell to add to your list of spells known chosen from your class list.

Damn it! I missed total completion by two fucking hours?! Ugh. That's annoying.

My eyes flick down to the rewards.

'that's enough to level up... again.'

'let's add that level four stat point to strength, bringing that up to a nice even eighteen, theeen oh boy! Second level spells! What do I have here?'

I can learn two new spells. Three if you include the free spell reward.

First and foremost, Detect Thoughts would be pretty useful. I can bring my gaslighting game of lewdness chicken I've been playing with Linkle up to an entirely new level.

Annnnd oh. This'll be good. Blistering Invective. I can set people on fire just by intimidating them now. Badass. Shame Pathfinder doesn't have Vicious mockery... where I could literally kill someone by saying that they are a 'Soyboy' or an 'Idiot Stupid Head'.

Next, I'll take something to improve my melee capabilities. Bladed dash.

As for my item... four thousand gold really opens up a lot. I could get a ring of protection, an item that increases one of my stats by two, a bag of holding, a-

Ring of sustenance.

A ring that seems almost mundane in the game itself, but is a total game changer in real life.

The ring allows you to go without food and water which sounds badass as hell! Even more importantly, it reduces the number of hours you need to rest from eight... to merely two.

There are downsides, of course, or rather, a downside. Said downside being that it doesn't function unless you have been wearing it for a week... and if you take it off, you need to restart this attuning process from the beginning.

With a dim glow, a ring appears on my finger, I sit up on the futon and look around slowly, gazing over my sword lain next to me.

I let out a quiet yawn and wipe an eye as Linkle lets out a quiet groan and shifts in her sleep.

Yiga Assassination Attempt II:
Oh. I see how this is going to go. We're going to run out of Roman numerals eventually, yeah? This sort of seems like it's going to become a common occurrence for you. Regardless. Someone has informed the Yiga clan of your arrival to Kakariko. That isn't good.

Objectives:
Ensure both you and the Hero of Hyrule survives: [ ]
Defeat Goka the Slaughterer: [ ]

Fuck. How- we were just a pair of travelers. We never even spoke to anyone for an extended period of time... though I guess Linkle did have the Sheikah Slate out in the open on her hip. We were too tired to really notice or care.

I cautiously gaze around the room, a frown on my face.

I can't see anything out of the ordinary.

We are on the second floor of Impa's large house, in a spare room which was being used for storage.

The window is closed, the door is sealed, I can't see anything that would be an immediate threat.

I quietly and suspiciously cast 'detect thoughts' and look around the room.

There's nothing inside the room besides Linkle. Strangely enough, my detection range stops abruptly at the walls of the room, acting as if it had struck something solid. Strange, because most detection spells can easily pierce several feet of wood. Is this room lead lined?

I cautiously lay back down and decide to rely on the one thing that has kept myself and Linkle alive for this long...

Cowardice and trickery.

I peer through a small crack in my eye lids, concentrating on my detect thoughts spell...

The window slightly cracks open causing me to realize that there is a mind on the other side of the wall.

'So. That's the hero of Hyrule, huh? She doesn't look like much. She's completely defenseless. Heh! Her sheikah guard isn't even protecting her! What a joke!' A quiet, almost wispy voice echoes out. Apparently being the surface thoughts of this assassin.

There's a quiet thud on the wooden floor, but... nothing is there.

The mind is growing closer and closer.

He's invisible.

Fucking Kohga's the cause of this. I just know it.

'I wonder if I can frame all this on him?' He wonders.

I can sense him walk closer and closer. As he walks just under me I sit up with great speed, hand grabbing around the hilt of my weapon as I fling the blanket that was covering me forwards.

It bends around an invisible target as my sword begins to glow brightly.

I don't have time to comprehend why it is glowing as an almost blinding shine emanates from the blade, I stab forwards, through the blanket.

I can feel a slight resistance, but it's clear that I missed my mark as the invisible mind aura takes a step back.

'SHIT!' The man mentally curses

"LINKLE WAKE THE FUCK UP!" I snap as I slash my blade towards the side.

*Clang*

There's a brief shower of sparks as metal collides with invisible metal, I grab the blanket in one hand and use it once more as a distraction.

'oh you little bastard'. The figure seems to think.

The blonde hero of Hyrule sits up with a gasp looking around as I duck to the left, a cut appearing on my side as a blade seems to appear from thin air, a wave of fading magic creeps along the edge and down the arm holding it, it rapidly revealing our attacker.

Fucking invisibility spell.

I point at him. "You're awfully pathetic for an assassin."

He lunges forwards.

"You've failed miserably. Now you've got to deal with me."

There is a brief flinch to his body, in the next moment, fire floods down his arm and ignites his torso.

"AAAAHHHH!" He screams as I lunge forwards

Surprisingly, despite being on fire, he manages to deflect my slash with his tanto blade, he flips backwards, tossing his weapon upwards and doing several complex gestures with his hands that look as if they came directly out of Naruto.

A large glob of water appears above him and splashes down on him, snuffing out the fires.

He reaches up and snags the flipping weapon out of the air, lowering his stance as he seems to grow far more serious. There's still a slight caution to his moves, but he is resolute.

With a small flourish, a large needle appears in his hand, the type you would use in knitting, he hurls it forwards as he rushes towards me.

I wince as the needle scratches my cheek, the throwing weapon sinking into a nearby wooden box.

He meets my upwards slash with a downward slash of his own.

He takes one sole step back, shifting his grip slightly as his arm is knocked back.

My next slash is narrowly deflected. He realized he is no match for me in a contest of strength, so he instead decided to start deflecting my attacks instead of trying to meet them head on.

He swipes his other hand forwards, his finger tips just barely passing in front of my eyes.

His attack didn't land, but it had the intended effect of blinding me temporarily as my eyes reflexively shut and I flinch back.

"SHIT! Aurum! Dodge!"

By the time I reopen my eyes, a curved tanto blade is plunging towards the center of my torso.

He lunges backwards suddenly, abandoning the attack as a third figure enters the scuffle.

"HRAAAGH!" Linkle roars as she swings a large wood cutting axe over her head, she doesn't hit, of course, but she saved me from a truly nasty wound as the axe buries itself into the floor boards with a sickening crack, wood splinters and shatters as the blonde slowly glares upwards.

Our attacker does a few swift gestures then a second Yiga assassin appears.

'what?!'

They both rush forwards in unison, reaching behind their backs and drawing a second weapon, a fairly dangerous looking sickle with an extremely thin tip.

I duck under a slash from one of the men and swipe upwards-

My blade passes through his chest with zero resistance, the clone to disappear with a puff of smoke and causing my eyes to widen as I glance to the side.

Linkle lets out a gasp as the tip of the sickle stabs into her stomach, in her hands are two parts of an axe, it looks like she tried to use the haft of it to block the slash from the tanto, but it broke, leaving her with what's basically a really top-heavy hand axe and a stick.

She drops both and grabs onto the assassin's wrists stopping the sickle from digging any deeper and the plunging attack with the weapon in his other hand.

I step forwards and slash downwards, but the assassin headbutts the hero of Hyrule and narrowly manages to step back out of the range of the attack.

I turn in place and send a horizontal slash towards the bastard, he catches the attack with both of his weapons, but lets out a slight shout of surprise as I slug him in the face with my other hand.

He takes a sole step backwards as I stab my weapon forwards, the blade sinking into his side.

He twists slightly, leg lashing out and slamming into my ankles as the blunt back of his sickle loops around my shoulder, he pulls me forwards, flipping me forwards and throwing me.

I let out a quiet gasp as my back smashes into a wooden box, I bounce off it and flop to the floor as the Yiga assassin raises his weapons.

He narrowly ducks past a hurled axe head and turns away from me as I roll to my feet, casting a spell as I do so.

As he snap kicks Linkle- who had been running at him with a rusty longsword- in the stomach, causing her to let out a cry of pain as her injury is tormented further, he manages to evade my newest attempt to lock him down, his very shadows writhing upwards.

He slips out of their grasp and turns to me as I slash forwards with a slight plan in mind, he goes to deflect my attack with his tanto, but my blade catches into the little sword trap near the hand guard.

The weapon is torn out of his hand, flipping through the air and briefly stabbing into the floor before falling over.

An arrow sinks into the man's thigh as he lets out a shout of surprise, Linkle had quickly swapped to a wooden bow, firing her first shot into our melee before nocking another.

As I slash downwards, he tries to block with his remaining weapon, but it is too thin, and my own weapon catches it at an awkward angle, snapping it cleanly in half and causing the razor sharp tip to imbed into the floor boards.

He hops backwards twice to gain distance, his movements swift and precise, he pauses at the far wall and raises a hand.

I take two careful steps back and raise my own offhand.

The man avoids another arrow from Linkle as he does a few gestures, sigils appear around his hand as the symbol of an upside down eye appears behind him, puffs of red sealing paper raining down around him.

I snap my finger.

*Crackle*

*BOOM*

A bolt of lightning shoots from his outreached hand and slams into my body, causing me to let out a shout as my body spasms. "AAAAAAA-"

With a loud thud I collapse to the floor, residual sparks of electricity crackling across my body.

He didn't fare much better, however, as a blast of thunderous noise causes the walls to buckle slightly before returning to normal, the wooden window shutter behind him being blasted off its hinges.

"SHIT! AURUM!" Linkle shouts.

The door slams open as a figure rushes inside, the young girl we had seen outside yesterday, Paya.

Her eyes scan the room rapidly, locking onto the Yiga clan assassin who staggers slightly, hands brought up to his ears.

Blue sigils appear around her as she practically soars across the distance between them, leaving a trail of blue sealing papers in her wake, her fist slams into the stomach of the man, shoving him back into the wall hard enough to crack the wood and cause it to lightly bend outwards.

He lets out a low wheeze as he slumps to the ground.

As this is happening, I weakly bring a hand to my chest and cast a healing spell just as my vision begins to darken.

I let out a gasp of relief as the sheer pain my body had been feeling lessens.

I sit up, bringing my hand to my chest once more and casting a second healing spell.

I look over to Linkle as she falls to her knees, letting out several heavy breaths of exertion as red begins to stain her bland tan shirt.

I weakly crawl over to her and take a seat beside her, I lift her shirt slightly and take a look at the wound, it's a little grizzly, but it's nothing I can't heal. Linkle seems to be so mentally exhausted from that fight I don't think she even takes notice of the fact I slightly pulled her shirt up.

I gently touch her skin and channel a healing spell, causing the wound to begin to close. The bruise forming on her stomach lessens as well.

I look up to her face, her nose blooded as she gives me a tired half-lidded stare.

"You look... rough." She blandly observes, a slight ghost of a smile on her lips.

"You're one to talk." I scoff as I gently heal her nose, the excess healing after it is cured going towards her stomach.

*POOF*

I freeze as Linkle's eyes grow wide, gazing behind me.

I turn, seeing a line of smoke extending through the open window.

Paya is frozen in shock for a moment but quickly looks outside.

"No!" She curses, apparently not seeing him outside.

He ran.

"Shit." Linkle summarizes my thoughts perfectly.

I let out a long groan as I fall flat.

"Fuuuuuuuuck." I lowly curse as I stare up at the ceiling.

A Quest Has Been Completed!

Defeat Goka the Slaughterer: [x]

Bonus Objectives:
Kill Goka the Slaughterer: [-]
Prevent even a single point of damage from happening to either you or Linkle: [-]
Defeat your opponent before help arrives: [-]
Singlehandedly defeat your foe: [-]

Rewards: 2500 Exp.

"Aurum, are you alright?" My sword questions.

"Peachy." I sigh as I continue laying on the floor, my body aches and burns, a stinging sensation deep in my body. "Who the fuck was that guy?"

"No clue." Linkle sighs. "Someone in the Yiga Clan obviously... slightly above average at that, but not much else to go on."

"Slightly above average?" I question, glaring pointedly at the side of the girl's head.

"Yeah. I've fought some before. He was pretty standard."

"Linkle... he kicked our ass... AT THE SAME TIME." I growl.

"Yep. But keep in mind we're not at our full strength, right?" She shoots back with a slight wince. "Hey... uh... could you heal a little more-"

"Fresh out. Ask me again in eight hours." I deadpan.

"Oh..." She mutters quietly. "I see... alright."

**Linebreak**

Linkle and I sit in front of an older woman, the corners of her mouth tugging downwards. "I have heard that you two have had a tough morning."

Linkle nods once. "It could have been better."

The old woman lets out a quiet sigh. "I never thought that they would be so bold. I apologize for my guard's lax attitudes. They alone could have cost you your lives."

"Can you punish the one who was outside yesterday when we got here?" The blonde to my left asks.

"Linkle." I sigh while looking over to her. "You can't seriously be holding a grudge over that?"

"Of course I can? This marks the, what, sixth time, seventh time that you have helped me? The second time you have saved my life, definitely. Then that guy treats you like you're some sort of Yiga assassin! Acting like Impa here couldn't totally obliterate you if you tried to hurt anyone here!"

"Is that... was that an insult?" I mutter with a confused blink.

"It doesn't matter! He was super disrespectful to the second hero and I don't like him!" She declares.

"Second Hero?" Impa questions.

"Of course! He has a second Master Sword, after all!" Linkle nods.

I glance down to the sheathed blade in my lap.

"Yes... well." The elderly woman begins. "I believe that now would be a good time to explain what exactly has happened. I myself am quite confused about that sword. Where did you come from, strange hero?"

"Well, my name is Aurum... and that's about all I know about my history besides the fact I was apparently a hero. I don't exactly recall, because I was quite understandably delusional yesterday, but I think I told you that I lost my memories?"

"You did." The woman nods once.

I scratch the back of my head. "Sorry, I can't tell you much beyond that. That's all I really know."

"No." Impa waves off. "It is fine. I do not blame you for it. I am more curious about another thing you revealed... you said that the leader of the Yiga Clan was somehow tracking you. How?"

"Magic." I state with a flat frown.

"…"

"And no, I don't mean that as a joke, I mean legitimate scrying magic." I glance to Linkle. "One of which I was unable to counter today as my own was preoccupied in making my heart start beating again and keeping your organs in your body. So. Realistically. He could be watching us even now."

The old woman shakes her head. "I have lived a long life... I am aware of the existence of magic and know of means to counter it."

She gestures around the room. "This house of mine was built with such a thought in mind. Ancient Sheikah technology to ensure privacy. It is why it is so quiet, noises between rooms are dampened."

Huh. That explains a few things.

"We're probably going to stay here for a little while longer. Maybe a day or two." Linkle states while glancing towards me, seeing that I am unopposed to the idea she looks back to Impa. "After that, what should we do... what has changed since I was asleep."

"A lot has changed, Linkle." The elderly woman sighs. "A truly large portion of the population has moved out of Hyrule entirely over the past one hundred years... not that I can really blame them. The Yiga clan is far more prevalent, Guardians- a name that has grown more and more ironic over the years- are just as active as they have always been."

"The rest of the world might be forced to deal with the monsters who rise every blood moon, but Hyrule is the only place where you have to worry about the Yiga and the Guardians. Not to mention the divine beasts which make entire areas inhospitable."

"The divine beasts- no..." Linkle begins only for her voice to die out in a horrified whisper. "I-I had assumed but-"

"Yes." Impa nods slowly. "The four divine beasts have been tainted... the first to fall? Vah Naboris. It started wandering aimlessly in the Gerudo desert sixty years ago, striking anything that approaches it with bolts of lightning, its aimless wandering knocking up a tremendous sandstorm. It is mere luck that it hasn't strayed close to Gerudo town, but it is possible that this luck might not continue."

"Next, thirty five years ago Vah Rudania fell, diving deep into Death Mountain and causing it to become active yet again, making the entire area nearly inhospitable for anyone other than the Gorons. It is growing worse as well. The high temperatures creeping further and further. The magma flows reaching more and more. Ten years ago, you could make the trip up the mountain, it would be miserable and you might suffer from heatstroke, but you could still do it. Now? You will be cooked alive long before you reach Goron City."

"Then, fairly recently, merely two years ago, Vah Ruta has also succumbed to the Calamity and has begun drenching the Zora's domain in a never-ending downpour of rain, leading to numerous mud slides and cases of flooding in the region."

"T-Then... does that mean Vah Medoh hasn't fallen yet?!" Linkle asks with a gasp.

"Not in the typical way, no. It'll shoot down any Rito who flies too close, but it hasn't actively ruined the region yet like it very well could." Comes Impa's response.

The girl lets out a quiet sigh of relief as her shoulders slump. "That's good."

"So, which one should we go to first? Vah Ruta probably poses the biggest threat, right?" She asks.

"I don't believe that you should go to any of the divine beasts." Impa frowns. "At least not yet."

I glance over to Linkle. "She's right. We got utterly destroyed by some random Yiga guy. Whatever a 'divine beast' is would totally obliterate us."

A Quest has been received.

A Quest has been received.

A Quest has been received.

A Quest has been received.

Seal the divine Beasts #1:
Vah Rudania is causing quite the issue in northern Hyrule, its high temperatures have the potential to turn the entirety of Hyrule into a volcanic wasteland if given enough time! Perhaps two heroes should purify the beast.

Objective: Clear out the Malice infecting Divine Beast #2, Vah Rudania: [ ]

Seal the divine Beasts #2:
Vah Ruta has been tainted, creating a ceaseless downpour that risks flooding the Zora's domain. The main issue of this is that the rest of Hyrule will surely follow if something isn't done soon. Perhaps two heroes should purify the beast.

Objective: Clear out the Malice infecting Divine Beast #3, Vah Ruta: [ ]

Seal the divine Beasts #3:
Vah Naboris has been compromised, it wanders aimlessly in the Gerudo desert, kicking up a massive sandstorm and striking anything that comes too close with several million volts of electricity. It hasn't strayed close to anything important yet, but who knows how long this lucky streak will continue. Perhaps two heroes should purify the beast.

Objective: Clear out the Malice infecting Divine Beast #5, Vah Naboris: [ ]

Seal the divine Beasts #4:
Vah Medoh has been... existing, I guess? It sort of just sits up there in the sky not doing much. It's clearly planning. Its evil machinations being set up by its little horde of flying guardians. It won't be long until it becomes the god king of Hyrule... right? Perhaps two heroes should purify the beast.

Objective: Clear out the Malice infecting Divine Beast #9, Vah Medoh: [ ]

"Aurum." Linkle states.

"Hm?" I hum as I look up. "What? I was thinking."

"About what? Planning our future moves is really important. You shouldn't be spacing out." The girl pouts.

"I was actually doing just that. From what Impa here has said, Vah Medoh would clearly be the easiest to tackle as it isn't actively destroying the surroundings. The volcano one has the issue of heat, the desert one has the issue of lightning, and let me just say, after being struck by electricity today I am not a fan. Ruta is causing an endless downpour and Medoh is just existing at the moment."

"That means Medoh and Ruta would be the easiest to get to, which means we should probably tackle them first. But. Seeing as we are too weak, we should first grow our strength."

I look down to the sword in my lap and slightly unsheathe it. "It's clear that we are growing stronger with time. The Sovereign Blade here has ascended to a new form, its power increasing. That means that I grew strong enough to withstand its new power."

"Correct." The sword supplies.

The new form of my sword looks mostly the same, but it is far more golden, a long line of gold trails down the side of the blade with grey runes following its length, the handguard also became gold, but that's about it.

Sovereign Blade (Goddess Blade): (+2 Evil Sealing Adamantine Longsword)
Hardness: 25
Health: 50
Weight: 3.5 Lbs
Damage: 1d8+2+Str (+1d4, +1d4)
Crit Range: 19-20 (x2)
Blade of Evil's Bane (Least): Deals 1d4 additional damage to evil aligned individuals and 2d4 to creatures infused with the very essence of evil.

I look back up. "Beyond the idea of going to Vah Medoh and Ruta first, I don't know enough about Hyrule to really know where to go. Something does make me a little worried, though."

"Worried?" The old woman echoes.

I glance over to Linkle and back to Impa. "You should be aware, that sometimes I just get these like... flashes... of insight. It's primarily how I knew we were in danger both times the Yiga attacked us. The first time it gave me enough time to change your hair color with magic, Linkle, and the second allowed me to pretend to be asleep to lure him in close. As of a couple of moment ago... I gained a slight knowledge of the divine beasts... the only issue is, one is referred to as number two. Another as number three, a third as number five-"

I watch the old woman stiffen, eyes growing wide.

Four is less than five. It's common math. Even if I stopped here, we would still be missing a single divine beast, but oooooh it's much MUCH worse.

I stare dead into her eyes. "And the final one is known as number nine."

"Nine?!" The woman gasps.

"What?" Linkle whispers.

"You seem to be missing five divine beasts."

A quest has been received.

"Sixteen." I whisper. "There are sixteen in total. Vah Sarin is the first we need to find. I don't know the names of the others."

The old woman brings a hand to her head. "Vah... Sarin..."

She lets out a long sigh and looks over the two of us. "Yes, I believe that we should know the locations of these twelve new divine beasts. It would be for the best that we find their locations before the Calamity manages to."

She shakes her head. "We shouldn't worry about this right now. Firstly you two need to regain your strength. This takes priority. I will be having the Sheikah search Hyrule in the meantime, but you two are in great danger with the Yiga Clan so active."

"Where do we go first?" Linkle questions.

"First." The woman continues. "You should go to Hateno Village."

"Hateno is still around?!" The blonde to my left questions an excited grin on her face.

"It is. Going there, you will find an ancient technology lab on the hill. That is where Purah lives. Go see her and she will be able to teach you the ins and outs of your Sheikah Slate."

Linkle bashfully scratches the back of her head, seemingly thinking about how she hasn't used any of its powers beyond the storage function.

A quest has been received.

Travel to Hateno Village:

'yes, yes I get it.'

I minimize the quest.

"After that, it would probably for the best that you head to the lost woods. The Great Deku tree has been watching over your master sword for the past one hundred years."

"Oh! So that's where it went? Alright" Linkle nods with a bright smile. "We'll go there soon!"

She looks to me. "When should we leave?"

"Not today... hell, not even tomorrow. Day after tomorrow at the earliest." I frown.

She nods slowly as a hand falls to her stomach. "My injuries are still too annoying to travel. My stomach might start bleeding again, then we'd be out of luck."

"Every single nerve in my body is still screaming because of that electric bullshit. If someone tried to force me to walk a long distance today I might just deck them in the face."

I lift a hand slowly, my fingers twitching slightly.

I look to Impa. "So. Small question. Can you like... give us supplies before we leave? Like food. Maybe some canteens of water... legitimate weapons so Linkle can stop using rusty swords and sticks?"

"Oh, of course." The woman nods slowly. "We have been waiting for her return for the past one hundred years. It would be utterly ridiculous to send her off with no assistance. Personally, I would suggest you stay here for more than just today and tomorrow. There are many things to do around Kakariko."

"Right." Linkle nods as she looks over to me. "How about we leave in a week?"

I nod once. "Sounds good."
