I am so excited for this!

The perfect rebuttal to "Battle Hymn of the Republic" in that bonkers debate should have been "It's Raining Men" and it would have SLAPPED

Interesting to learn how this all started and boy howdy am I hyped to see some consequences.

I’m in Canada. I was a teen at this time. It was the moment when I started understanding what homosexuality was (and was not). I remember seeing the bullshit of Bryant and other anti-gay activists were doing and I couldn’t understand why what is really no one’s business mattered to them and why the Christian Wrong didn’t want other people to have the same rights as them. That really cemented my belief that human rights should never be subject to a popular vote. Because it was “popular vote” that denied interracial couples to be denied their rights, denial of the vote and the right to ride buses for POC, and denied women the right to bodily autonomy. And, as an aside, I am pretty sure that the still popular rant by anti LGTBQ+ people “It’s Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve” was actually coined by Bryant.

Oh… And my mother, born in 1924, was WAY ahead of the curve in insisting that EVERYONE had the same rights no matter their sexual orientation. Considering that when she married my step-Dad who was from India their marriage would have been illegal in many parts of the US, I think she was well aware of what discrimination can do.
