It's easy to lose track of time when you're kickin' it with J-Town.

Kyle

Gary asks, “Has Atlantic City always been Atlantic City?” and everyone know what he mean

I'm not a tall man, but I am a disaster

since as far as I know, monkeys do not speak to newspaper reporters, I must assume that the zookeeper witnessed all of this and never stepped in

James Proulx

Surfer Boy trying to pronounce "Bayonne" is killing me.

John Harwood

J-Town is here and he doesn’t even wear a watch. He told me that time is for losers.

Old people still read the paper so you still need to throw an obituary in to let everyone know at the Elks Lodge. I had to cut my grandmothers way down because the charger by the letter and it came out to over a grand! Such a racket

Ashley

As a lady with big ol’ feet, I was both proud and shamed by that last story.

So I know a guy who had his legs run over by a train.. he's a above knee double amputee.

I also work for a newspaper in ohio.

Public health professional here. My guess is that the reason behind the not eating oysters in months with "R" is that during summer months (lacking "R"), the water temperature rises and increases the risk of contracting Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which is a bacteria that grows in warm sea water and can easily contaminate oysters. Pre-germ theory "common sense" ... "medicine".

I'm so glad you guys had Mike E. Winfield as a guest!! He's awesome, and deserves all the recognition he's finally getting! 🩵

Fast-moving trains generate vacuum alongside them, that can easily drag you toward it. That's why people are advised to stand back from the platform edge when a train passes by.

It's also what led to this delightful sign: http://arnoldzwicky.s3.amazonaws.com/sucked_off.jpg

Gareth really letting down his English side by not knowing this

Anonymous

You're supposed to be bullying Gareth, not innocent bystanders

Alanna

Ha! Thanks for that sign link. I can’t tell if Gareth prefaced his disbelief of the train suction with admitting his iffy awareness of physics to signal he actually did know, but was making the joke anyways, or he was sincerely covering his bases.

Yeah, print charges by letter and image, which is more or less the same set up as advertisements. An obit is simply to notify of a death, and announce when and where the funeral/memorial service will be. It’s to reach those not called by the family. As far as I’m aware (from my own and friend’s experiences), the online version for the newspaper and the funeral home/cemetery can be as long as you want. Special website packages are available, but are obvious money grabs. To me it was the casket and urn business that’s the egregious racket. There is absolutely no reason for a basic of either to cost as much as they do. The cheapest urn I was shown for my dad was just under $700 CAD and it was on “sale.” For someone who appreciates separating the soul or essence of a being from the body, to pay so much for something that’ll be seen for an hour or so then immediately buried… such a waste!

To anyone wondering what a jet is: It's a little bit you put on the end of a gas pipe that narrows it. So, a lot of gas comes into it, slowly, and speeds up at the end. The bits on a gas stove where the flames come out are jets.

As a lifelong NJ native, it's both encouraging and depressing that the places mentioned are still as terrible as they were framed in the Star (Ledger).
