Agh! This is the area I grew up in!! It’s been so entertaining to listening to Dave’s pronunciations! We don’t believe in phonetics here.

You can't hear me, but as soon as you yelled, "1600's!" I said, "Oh fuck- it's native american" and just buckled in for a wild ride that night

And please know this, Shawano is where Joseph McCarthy was a judge and to this day we still have a portrait of him in the main county courtroom. It’s a fucked up community of racist assholes.

Was here for this at home with my parents. In the balcony. I tried to get a "Gary!" chant going. Then my parents looked at me like, "you're a gd nerd." Anyway, we LOVED it, all of us. Including the commentary on the curiosity in row 3. What the actual FUCK!?!?! Anyway, Dad (72) especially loved Gareth riffing on Sconnie honky male folk. All the best from our family to yours. Can't wait to catch you again. <3

Oh my gosh, I have an Ernie Von Schledorn story! I used to be a radio personality. The Friday of Memorial Day weekend in about 2004, I got a call on the request line. It was about 4:30p. I answer: “92.5!” Man (w/thick German accent): “Who do you know wants to by a car!?” Me: “*Laughs.* How can I help you?” Man: “Who do you know wants to buy a car?” Me: perturbed that he’s doing an obvious EVS bit. “Alright, have a good weekend.” *click!* Phone rings. Me: “92.5!” Guy: “Wait! Don’t hang up, this _?_ at Ernie Avon Schledorn. Ernie would like to buy $5,000 worth of spots for this weekend.” And then the only person in the building and I had to drop everything to hand write and place their spots on the logs for the entire weekend…(because radio stations are cheap and don’t care about anything but ad rev)

The fact that Gareth mentions assault rifle on this day is poignant to me. Also, holy shit he was on fire!! Nice work.

I lived nearby in Langlade County for a couple years of my childhood and sadly never heard this story, not even from aggrieved old racist white dudes. Once I found out where this story was going, I didn't know how many Spotted Cows I needed to get through this (Just 2 thankfully). Great work as always gentlemen! Also, he was a footnote in this episode, but Father James Groppi was a Catholic priest and a civil rights activist from Milwaukee who helped organize fair housing marches there in the 60s, among other things, including this story. Sadly, Milwaukee is still the most segregated city in America today. Don't know if that's up to date but whatever, it still is

Gareth singing, "the dumbest whites alive" to Miss America tune was just too much for row 3 folks haha

My expectations were low after your response to getting an Indigenous guest for histories in Indian Country. If ever there was a need for an Indigenous voice to contextualize the nuances of tribal politics, history, and comedy it was this story. We don’t need you defending us, we want collaborators. Our future is in the communities we build together. Here are some links: https://landback.org/manifesto/ https://www.commonnotions.org/the-red-deal

Yeah, I get it. As we stated, the logistical difficulties and the can of worms that it opens once we start bringing on experts is not something I am going to do. It is a comedy podcast first. It would be extremely hard to find a guest in each city that covers the topic and has the comedy chops. Easier to just avoid the area in future Dollops.

An American history podcast, and how many Indigenous comedians have you had as a guest over the years? As for the alleged comedy chops of your guests, was everyone a winner? You only get a chance to fail if you get a chance. I complain because you deliver history that is both funny, engaging, and above all - antagonistic to the status quo. This episode did none of those things. Your response is no different than every settler's response to criticism, “just avoid the area in future Dollops.”

If you look at a satellite image of Wisconsin you will see the Menomonie County outline clearly defined in the forest.
