Lin Manuel Miranda was heavily influenced by The West Wing and talks about it in that other podcast. I think Dave has to watch it.

Dave should watch Hamilton on shrooms

Anonymous

I have literally never wanted to watch Hamilton. Ever. But the prospect of commentary from Dave and Gary? I'll sit through Lin-Manuel Miranda's twee-ass music bullshit.

Angelique Collins

MST3K-style setup of Dave + Gareth's commentary while watching Hamilton. Magnificent. A separate piece of content in which Dave watches Cats on shrooms? Superb. This ep contains multitudes of information + perspective I hadn't prior considered. Viewing "Hamilton" as propaganda is eye-opening. I remember watching it with confusion, attempting to suss out who the "good guys" and "bad guys" were, and I couldn't figure it out; I even tried Google searching (I am also aware that such a dichotomy in thinking is also problematic and should be worked on). I have some straggling thoughts that I can't seem to put into the right words: there's this intrusive thought that if any "founding father" (or likewise) saw *how* we now viewed this so-called 'sacred' constitution (i.e. online), we'd be burned at the stake for witchcraft. I mean, that's how old this fucking document is. How do people fail to recognize that there is no possible way it can be applied to contemporary society? Another straggling thought is that I can *feel* the difference between liberals and leftists but I'm having trouble explaining it to people. I'm wondering if anyone here can help me suss it out a bit more. Dave, thanks for bringing up hypersensitivity. My therapist believes that about 20% of the population is hypersensitive, or hyperaware, of the societal atrocities beyond themselves in a way they can't push out of their mind, along with their own struggles. I obviously only know this because she suspects I am one of them... Which is not surprising, considering I am codependent and a trauma survivor. My last trailing ADHD thought: I am the family historian for my kin, and as such, and also with Irish ethnicity, I wanted to pick your brain on a controversial figure-- and if you'd ever cover him: Michael Collins. Obviously, the IRA is two very different entities in the 1920s VS the 1990s but I wonder what your take on it is.

Well it looks like Dollopeños and Rubes alike have come together and agreed.

I have a degree in Musical Theatre. Been doing musicals all my life. I love being on stage. Allllll of my friends love Hamilton. I’ve never enjoyed the show myself. And now, I’m more against the show than ever. I will tell my friends, and they will say, “nooooo…but the music…I wanna be Eliza when the rights come out.” And I will roll my freaking eyes. To say I’m angry that the show is such a success is an insane understatement at this point. Thank you so much for opening my eyes, and giving me even more of a reason to make other people turn it off. 😂 Also, please don’t make Dave watch it. It’s not his thing. I love theatre, but I would not want anyone to force me to watch fucking Wicked. 😂

Thank you for mentioning the whole bullshit around LMM and PROMESA. I said this on Twitter but what happened with that is what the US government always does: Trot out the government approved acceptable Puerto Ricans for their propaganda at liberals. People like LMM, Marc Anthony and Jlo never pay the consequences for the bullshit they help the dems get away with.

were you forced to say to watch bill burr's new special?

Alanna

Out of curiosity, are your friends white? Because if so, I’m failing to see how they could be Eliza and keep in spirit of that whole aspect of the musical… And if not, I would suggest taking a second to rethink crapping all over one of the few musicals tailored for them. Yeah, I get that it’s a bunch of bullsh!t history-wise. However, as I mentioned in the comments for Aaron Burr part 2, there is more behind the success—global zeitgeist level success—of this show than politics.

Jennie Jermaine

They are white. Ha. And I understand not crapping on the style of the show. I would never do that. Yeah, it’s catchy and I understand why people like the sound. It’s different than any musical pretty much ever. For reference I love Title of Show, West Side Story, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, etc.. Hamilton wasn’t my thing before these Dollops. I now have more of a reason to stand my ground in not liking it. Haha.

andrew golenski

nah he just is a supporter of Burr, who happened to be part of the creation of All Things Comedy. if you didn't like Burr's new special or any of his previous, that's your opinion. But if you don't like him why would you bother with his new special? I don't like Chappelle's new direction so I don't watch it. I also don't complain about it on the internet.

Alanna

Heh, well bash those dreams of theirs then. I have heard of those shows but not seen any of them. Yes, not even West Side Story—glorified gang fighting didn’t really appeal to me. I’ll have to look them up now :).

Jennie Jermaine

Whaaaaat? I mean, yeah. Title of Show and BBAJ are not well known at all. But if you like rock-style musicals, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is for you. And they get the history fairly right, with some comedic modernizations. Pretty badass, in my opinion. Haha. West Side, though. Tsk, tsk. Haha. Only joking. 😂 I’ve done the show three times and would do it again in a freaking heartbeat. ❤️

Jennie Jermaine

At the same time, though, WSS is a big dance show, which is a BIG part of my love for it. No judgement at all if it’s not appealing to you or anyone. 😊

Thank you for helping me realize the truth about Hamilton, I was suckered in by the play and didn’t know he was such a monster.

What a great episode.
