I've been loving the savannah maps since my current campaigns are inspired by the Swahili Coast and western New South Wales. My step up from gnolls and goblins was minotaurs. Cows eating people are the greatest horror to the local cattle herding pastoralists. The other increase in danger has been from Janissary-like dragonborn. Professional soldiers vs skilled amateurs and militia leveys. Soldiers who are smart, brave, and dedicated to their dragon sires and matrons. Squads of soldiers who do nasty things like coordinate the release of dragonbreath like a massed volley of muskets. With sergeants and captains who have herald/paladin like auras.
