For the longest time I always thought the key points of a princess lifestyle and royal etiquette was for said princess to be sociable with her people as she attends to their needs and present herself in a warm, friendly manner. Well when it comes to the galactic monarch that is Princess Rosalina, who I was fortunate enough to gain an audience with when I made a request, I quickly came to realize that only one of those key points applied to her. Just from the small moment I watched not too long ago as she attended to her Luma subjects it was obvious that Rosalina was sociable with her people. So much so that she came off as a motherly figure.

However, when I finally spoke up to get her attention and greeted her with the proper respect...you'd think someone turned down the temperature on the thermostat. I should say in Rosalina's defense that she wasn't cold in a mean way towards me. More like she was cold in a standoffish, bordering anti-social way. Like she wasn't as engaging as any other princess would be. Maybe it's because I'm an outsider in the territory she governs? From what I've heard newcomers, especially humans, aren't exactly a dime a dozen in the Comet Observatory. So it's highly possible that she may not trust my presence here. And being the reporter that I am not even my own species would trust having me on their doorstep. Unfortunately some bad apples make the entire news reporting profession – even if we're from reputable stations – look like a bunch of paparazzi hounds working for supermarket gossip rags. Added with Rosalina being one who clearly doesn't trust new faces right off the bat I feared that I'd be leaving the Comet Observatory with nothing but a few scenic pictures for my article.

Then a chance series of events happened that changed things. I'm not sure exactly how it happened, or maybe the fact that the transpiring events made it all surreal that I didn't register it happened, but as I was walking around the observatory to get a few pictures of the outside I saw a bunch of Luma doing some repairs to one of the many windows that went around the structure. They looked down and waved to me and I waved back when suddenly another set of Luma that were playing with each other came barreling in the direction of the the repair Luma. The little star creatures all crashed into each other and while the majority of them managed to just tumble midair and right themselves, one Luma wasn't so lucky. The rose gold star took the brunt of the hit and was so disoriented that the little fella was hurtling down to the ground! Without even thinking I ran towards where the star creature was falling and took the best leap I could with my arms outreached. By some miracle of blessed luck I managed to catch the rose gold star and despite taking a table myself we were none the worse for wear.

Once I got my bearings I asked the star creature if he was alright. He shook his head(body?) for a moment before his eyes gave a happy expression and nodded in assurance that he was fine. And apparently news of the Luma's fall made it to the ears of the galactic princess herself because the next thing I know Rosalina comes running towards me, her majestic height now looking very intimidating. For a moment I thought she was going to yell at me for holding onto the Luma, like maybe it was forbidden for an outsider to do or something, and was ready to explain to her what happened.

But instead of getting scolded or being taken off to be executed by a crescent moon guillotine(because space) I got...a hug.

“You were amazing, Mr. Journalist! The construction Luma told me everything. Thank you so much for saving one of my precious children.” Rosalina said happily as she hugged me and gave me a bright smile. As bright as the very stars she governs.

“Er...Um, you're welcome Your Highness.” I said with an awkward stutter and slight smile.

“For your heroic deed of saving this little rose gold Luma, I will offer you a very attractive reward. Please go await for me in my private study whilst I prepare your bounty.” Rosalina said, and before I could say it wasn't necessary she ran off in another direction while the Luma all pushed me to another wing of the Comet Observatory.

And that brings us to now, with lil' old me waiting in Rosalina's study as she had instructed. It was a cozy, almost plain room in comparison to the rest of the Comet Observatory that was designed with state of the art tech. But it still had the classic galaxy/nebula theme as the rest of the place did. So it wasn't completely out of place. While I waited I looked at the many meticulously lined up on the four bookshelves, the nebula style marble top desk with stainless chrome metal legs and the fancy kaleidoscope that was in just the right angle to look up at the endless night sky through the open window. The carpet was also a nice silver color while the walls had rune like artwork of various colored Luma and constellations. Basically the study was decorated the way you'd expect a princess who rules a part of the galaxy to decorate it in.

The minute I finished this thought I heard the door to the study open and immediately stood at attention to Princess Rosalina as she walked in. She smiled at me kindly and closed the door of the study behind her then walked up to me. And maybe I was still a bit shell-shocked from the rush of events that led me here...but something about her demeanor seemed different. The look in her eyes was familiar somehow but I couldn't place it.

“Mr. Journalist...I want to first thank you again for saving my little Luma subject. He's the youngest one to come under my care as of recent, you know.” Rosalina said with a smile.

“Oh really? How nice. And you're welcome Your Highness, but it's really no issue. And I don't need a reward – I just did what anyone else would have done.” I said honestly.

“Au contraire, you deserve a reward simply because you acted so selflessly. Plus...this is also a reward for me.” Rosalina said, the last word coming out in a raspy kind of tone before walking past me to go over to her desk.

“Eh, I'm sorry? I'm not sure what you mean, Princess Rosalina.” I replied in confusion.

“Yes. As I'm sure you've noticed from your touring my kingdom, the Comet Observatory doesn't have any other being inhabiting this place. No humans, no Koopas or any other humanoid or anthropomorphic being. I suppose I am to blame for that however. I'm sure you noticed that I don't welcome newcomers very well. Even my own fellow monarchs Princess Daisy and Princess Peach say that if I wasn't a space princess I would be an ice queen.” Rosalina explained with a bit of a chuckle at the end.

“Oh...well uh, I'm sure you have your reasons. You're very motherly towards your subjects and always look out for them. So I understand.” I said with a slight smile, to which Rosalina looked to me and smiled back – again showing that same familiar yet indistinguishable look in her eyes.

“Heroic and unbiased. You're practically a saint, Mr. Journalist.” Rosalina said as she pulled back a draw behind her desk and began to rummage through it.

“Heh, heh. I wouldn't say I'm a saint per say but I do appreciate the compliment...So what exactly did you mean by the reward you plan to give me is also a reward for you? And what does there being no other people here have to do with it?” I asked, equal parts nervously curious and professionally intrigued due to my reporter's side.

“Well, my good fellow, because there is no other human here besides me I have barely anyone to speak to aside from my few friends who visit. But there comes a time when I need more than friendship. I need something more...intimate.” Rosalina said.
