Ah, the famous "freak weather conditions" line... The location filming for this story took place over one freezing week in early January 1971, during which the weather was ridiculously changeable, switching from snow, to rain, fog, and even one day of blue sky and bright sunshine. There was no hope of maintaining continuity between scenes, so script editor Terrance Dicks quickly added some lines to the studio script for Episode One explaining how the arrival of Axos had caused the weather to go crazy over the whole area... :-)
