This is my favourite episode of all time, so I'm glad you loved it this much. In this episode we're supposed to be left wondering. Was there something knocking or was it just the ship making noises? Was there a creature on the bed or just another kid messing about? Did The Doctor write "Listen" on the chalkboard and forget or did something else write it? Etc etc. We'll never know. The whole point of the episode is that fear makes us think there's something bad in the dark when there isn't. And I love that concept. And again we see just how significant Clara is to The Doctor's life. She does SO SO many incredible things for him, she's been to Gallifrey multiple times now and she knows him better than anyone else ever has I think. It's amazing, she's amazing. I also think it's SO clever how Clara was the one who grabbed The Doctor's leg. And I love the parallel between The Doctor telling young Danny about fear being a good thing and then Clara telling that to The Doctor as a child. It's like The Doctor subconsciously remembered what she'd told him. And the stuff with the toy soldier and Orson will only become more confusing later on... And I have a little story that involves this episode. I'm scared of the dark and I also have an anxiety disorder that basically keeps me housebound. I have panic attacks every day and I'm scared all the time. So the message of this episode, and of Clara's speech in particular, means SO much to me. I was lucky enough to meet Jenna at a local comic con a few years ago and I told her this, she was so kind and listened like she actually cared. And then when she signed the autograph for me she wrote "fear is a superpower" on it. I nearly cried right there. That autograph has been up on my bedroom wall ever since. So this episode will always be uniquely special to me. 😊 (also I am one of the people who's been talking about what The Doctor and Clara's relationship is, I didn't realize you didn't want that. So I won't say anything about that from now on)

"You said the name you chose was a Promise. What was that Promise?" "Never Cruel or Cowardly." "Because if you're very wise, and very strong, Fear doesn't have to make you Cruel or Cowardly. Fear Can Make You Kind."
