It's fun watching these with you, it's been a while since I last rewatched it all. Since the story is completely done, I think it's ok to say that yes Maria is gone for good. We never see her again, or either of her parents again. Basically the actress after the start of series 2 filming decided that she didn't want to act anymore and she didn't like people recognizing her. So the writers made up this America storyline in literally a few days and added those scenes into the episodes. That's why it feels so out of the blue. I hope me saying this is ok. I know you hate spoilers but, like I said, since her story is completely over I think this is ok. If not then I apologize and I'll delete this.

Yeah I think her parents didn't realise how time consuming filming would be, and didn't want it to affect her school work. She started acting again a few years later.

That was part of it too yeah. But she said herself that she couldn't handle the pressure of acting at that young age.
