Zygons does indeed take place in Scotland;and they filmed it entirely on location...about 20 miles south of London. There are a couple of large stretches of moorland (heather, bracken, bogs, and rocky outcrops) in the counties of Kent and Surrey; which is very useful for films and TV, logistics-wise,as not only is London close at hand, but also Pinewood and Shepperton film studios. For instance, the Finale of the Bond movie 'Skyfall' was shot there - the moorland landscape where Skyfall house was located was actually the same place featured here. Add in the sound of bagpipes (or,in Skyfall's case,a CGI distant mountain backdrop) and the overall effect is genuinely convincing. It's a similar situation to Vasquez' Rocks just outside Los Angeles - they turn up in EVERYTHING. sometimes to emulate an alien planet,or (more often) the landscape of the Wild West; and yet are a quick and easy drive from the L.A. film studios. The same can be said for the heathery hills immediately to the south of London.
