i love seeing more of nathan standing up to himself. that must have taken a lot of strength and courage to say what he did, and i commend him so much for that. i love the scenes with brooke and peyton and can understand both girls. peyton made her choice, and then resended on it. i think lucas jumped to brooke a little too soon but that's not on brooke either. i don't think i caught why you don't like the jake story, could you elbaorate on it a bit? i'd be interested to hear your thoughts. i personally love jake a lot and the paralells of him with karen that lucas brought up from the child's perspective. i thought that was a very good scene. and it's rare to see a teenage father step up and care for the little one even in today's media, so back then i feel like it was a really impactful story because it genuinely was something so unexpected. ooh i thought of another something i want to add about nathan. but in the past, he just used to lash out. he was angry and hurt and it was understandable, but he'd lash out without any thought for anyone else, and that's not okay. now, he still has his moments of lashing out in pain and frustration, but also now has the ability to process that and feel badly about his actions. it's a good period of growth to see that in him, that he doesn't just lash out and move on, but rather is starting to mature to the point of saying "oh, i shouldn't have done that, that's not the person i'm angry at, let me apologize and make it right." i just love his growth so much and i love how, even though he's progressed A LOT, it's still not him being this "golden boy" character, he still has his moments, he's still unlearning things and learning new things, and he's still an imperfect teenage character and i just love that a lot.

Favorite parts of this episode were Nathan/Dan, Haley/Peyton, Naley and Ravens/Rivercourt. I loved that Nathan stood up to Dan and called him out on all his shit. It just shows how much he understands about who Dan is, how much it's affected him and how much he doesn't want to be like him. Nathan really does want to be a good guy. You can tell that more and more each episode. I love Haley because she is who she is and I love who she is in different relationship dynamics. I like the budding friendship with her and Peyton. I like how they can be honest with each other. There's not all that history so it's a nice break from the established friendship that's irking me rn. Peyton needs open up and Brooke needs to stop being so dense (good word). I liked the Naley scenes at the end. When Nathan comes in to apologize (yet again lol) Haley cuts him off with a kiss. She understands how Dan is affecting him and is being supportive as he figures it out. I also loved the look she gives Nathan after he talked to Lucas and was nice (Loved that crumb btw) and then nudged him as an acknowledgment. Also, good on Lucas to initiate. This was the first time we got to see the Ravens play with the Rivercourt team. Just a nice callback to the beginning and how far they've come. They were just playing for the fun of it. I liked how you mentioned you can see why everyone loves Nathan and that you do as well now. He's a special character. They did a good job with fleshing out his character in the beginning, so that he's rootable even while making mistakes. Imma bet Nathan will soon overtake Lucas in your rankings lol. Who woulda thought it in epi 1. Nathan is amazing ngl.

I definitely could have explained why I don't like the Jake storyline a little better. Sorry about that! For me, it honestly kind of feels like lazy writing. At this point, we're not that far into the first season and we've already three instances of teen pregnancy (Karen, Deb, and Jake). It's just a little repetitive and seems like their go-to dramatic event is for a teen to become a parent. Don't get me wrong, I like Jake and will continue to be happy when he shows up. I also get the parallels, but I still think the writers could have been more creative with Jake's storyline rather it be just another teen pregnancy story so soon into the show. I hope that makes more sense.

Looking back on this comment now, it's funny how quickly your prediction of me liking Nathan more than Lucas came true. lol Based on a lot of comments, it was clear Lucas was going to change (and not for the better) at some point, but I didn't expect it to happen quite this soon.
