Guidance Sucks in Fifth Edition

Guidance is a terrible spell. It's so bad, in fact, that I'd argue it flirts with being objectively bad. I mean, not if you're the character casting it. If you're casting the spell, it's absolutely fantastic. Guidance is not only incredibly powerful, it is constantly useful. That's actually part of the problem.

I have always felt this way about guidance! It takes the players out of the game for the moment and I always hated it when someone would grab it and cast it almost every time. Does my cleric have it? Of course he does! It is too good to pass up, but I always try to make it work in the current context. We had a moment when our barbarian was carrying a PC on his back and before he went on his way I cast guidance on him blessing his travel. I really try not to be "that" guy at the table with the cantrip.
