What's up Patrons?

I was going to do a special 200 subs thing but between the political climate right now and the fact that 200 isn't a particularly important milestone - I'm going to give it a miss until 250.

However, I do still want to give something back to you fine people for supporting me and my crappy videos so we'll do a mini Q&A in the comments.

If you've got a burning question you've always wanted my misinformed take on - slap it down there and I'll give it an answer. I'll try and get around to everything but no promises!

Thanks for sticking around and supporting the channel - and if you have any spare money (or are looking for a better way to spend the money you give me) please consider giving some money to the ACLU, the Minnesota bail fund or any other charity that's helping with the fight against police brutality and systemic racism - two topics that are just *slightly* more important than video games.

Okay I've got to get back to work on this monster of a video coming up next! see you in the comments!

I'm really a fan of your philosophical and literary criticism of games. You clearly have a knack for those aspects of game design. I'd love to see more stuff like the Nier: Automata video and the Designing Villains video. When can we expect more stuff like that? Keep up the good work!

I really love doing them too! Unfortunately, they tend to be quite time consuming to write and not very many people watch them. That's not to say I'll never do a more literary video again - I'm mulling over ideas for another one at some point in the future right now...

What's your take on the remakes and the rehashing of old concepts? It feels like big studios are running out of ideas, while the indie games are becoming more and more interesting and creative, Tom Francis' games come to mind.

Whilst remakes and remasters are usually a cynical cashgrab, I think they've definitely got a place in the videogaming ecosystem. For one, the transient nature of consoles and PC hardware means that remasters mean that people can enjoy old games brought up to modern graphical and UI standards - plus, remasters can meaningfully add to the original game and become their own thing, look at all the new content in the new FF7! Ultimately AAA games are always going to be safe and crowdpleasy, but I wouldn't say that the remakes we've been seeing lately are any different than in movies, music or TV, it's just video games have only gotten old enough to start warranting them recently!
