I'm always loath to share the part of the process where I'm indecisive. This is part of why I don't like to steam on Twitch but it's also why there are gaps in the process videos I upload. This time, I recorded the point between these last two progress shots. It's an insight into the fact that this process is messy.  Getting from color rough, to now took about 3-4 hours of pushing the whole thing back and forth. It's not a matter of making the painting "better" but instead it's about closing off dead ends.

Before I spend 6-10 hours scrubbing in tiny details, textures and refined edges, I need to know I won't get stuck. There is a point in the painting where I consider it "solved" and that's where it is right now. The vast majority of values, color, lighting, level of detail, special effects and conceptual content is where I want it and now I just need to finish the painting. Once I'm here, I'm golden. Time to find a great podcast or TV show to listen to while I go to my happy place and just paint.

For me, this is zen.

It's really relieving to know that artists go through this at all levels. I can literally hate a painting for 3+ hours and then that aha! moment occurs and it's smooth sailing and easy decisions from then on. Glad I finally decided to pledge, keep it up! Looking forward to that Taurus.
