The starting point for many of my angels is word association. The goal is not to define what time literally is but rather to discover my own personal associations with it. What shape does 'time' take in my mind.
  • Sundial
  • Oragami
  • Eating
  • Burning
  • Weight
  • Waiting
  • Passage
  • Rotation
  • Clockwork
  • Expansion
  • Age
  • Season
  • Cycle
  • Perception

Let's pull out one of these symbols that seems odd and take a look at it. Oragami doesn't make sense of the face of it but it appeared early on as a concept I was very excited about. There is something recursive about time. Laying out a film real lets us see how similar each frame of time is similar to the one before and after it. This process of layering similar, yet different shapes one on top of the other calls to mind the image of folded paper. The fabric of time folded back on itself over and over, creating a pattern of harsh overlapping ridges.Playing the folded paper idea off the idea of time burning away everything it touches feels like a great interplay. Definitely going to explore that.In terms of personal memories. The time I often experience time the most is when I'm alone, forced by circumstance to wait. Despite many early drawings attempting to depict speed and motion, I feel like a more honest representation is one where time sits in waiting.

My least favorite part about this drawing is the head. I don't like to erase much at this stage, so rather than remove the partially formed idea I had with the head, I'll be playing with a more impactful solutions during the value phase of the painting.

More ideas still stewing for this one.
