Oof, I'm under the gun again this month.

Trying to get the last details wrapped up for my books came first this month and that pushed my painting work right up to the deadline this week!

Whenever I'm under a time crunch on a painting, I always try to remind myself of my better habits so I don't end up getting pinched too badly.

1. Finishing a piece quickly, means working methodically. That means I need to remain focused on not jumping ahead a step because I'm feeling impatient. Getting stuck on a painting wastes more time than taking an extra attempt at a sketch or colors.

2. Working good hours is more productive than working long hours. Staying up late isn't an option and forcing myself to sit for marathon sessions doesn't produce good results. The only path to completing work in a timely way, is to ensure I set aside prime work time away from distractions and other obligations. A few focused hours are worth 10 weary ones.

Is this a new angel for you? Looks great so far, and I can’t wait for those books!

So true about the hours!!! After many years of working a day job as a drafter, going home and grabbing a "reset 1-2 nap" I would work until 4-5 each night on my Fine Art Oils. I would then go in at 10:00 am every morning to work the 8 hour shift and do it all over again. Eventually, with that, the shows, the commissions, I just got burnt out and lost my desire to create. I find now, If I just create a bit every day or night, for just a few hours - I am getting back into the swing of things and the passion is coming back. We are trained since childhood that "If you work long and hard hours, you will be rewarded" - no true - "If you work smart and honest hours to yourself (be true to yourself), you will be rewarded" - Is the new paradigm. I don't be afraid of making errors.
