This month has been a little crazy for me, so I've been failing to post on time and I'll be packing these updates close together. The painting isn't being rushed, it's already almost done. I'm just slow on sharing right now.

With this one, I was originally planning on doing three figures together in the scene. The two halves of Sandalphon would be standing at the sides of their companion Azrael, Angel of Death.

When I walked away from this drawing in the evening, I thought I was on a good track, but when I looked at it again in the morning I wasn't satisfied at all. Azrael wasn't in the pencil sketch and the process of adding him in was throwing off whatever dynamism existed in the original drawing. Making changes like this is a departure from my normal work process and extremely risky for me.

it might be nice to have Azrael in there, as it connects with the artwork title in an interesting way - by adding him, it seems as your second try/ chance of creating this picture, which is what chance is all about :) but also, I like the idea of the two figures with Azrael in between, because "chance" is often 50% 50% and once might have a bad luck - facing Azrael. I think it might have work with the rhythm of the picture if Azrael would have been a bit higher, creating a triangle composition, but also not very strong, because its not just about him in this picture. sorry got carried away with many words, seems like I enjoyed your work and description very much :)

I love the idea of the image showing life and death. They are two sides of a coin. Maybe if you did it in a side by side, like you were creating the yin and yang symbol to show the polarity and how the two are connected?
