Two years ago in 2021, I released my first isometric camera mod. I remember like it was yesterday how delighted I was to have achieved this feat. Especially since I spent years waiting for someone to release a mod like this.

However as much as I wanted it, the mod wasn't perfect. I was just starting out and had a palliative solution for the visual loss. Increase the setting distance of lods/Sims.

Still there were losses. Mainly when moving the camera away from the ground or using the map camera. Now we managed to solve this...

That's because I created from my own camera mod, a NON-ISOMETRIC camera as good as the isometric camera.

My intention here was to COPY the isometry, without reducing the fov to almost zero, which is exactly what caused the visual loss.

The current mod:

  • Locks the vertical axis, preventing the camera from moving up or down. It will always remain at the same angle (like the isometric camera was on the Ts1)
  • Zoom in and zoom out are considerably gentle, being able to get closer to the ground or farther away until reaching the map view
  • FOV has been adjusted so that there is no loss of quality, on the contrary, there is even a small gain in relation to the amount of details/diffusion/lighting.

Below is the before and after for comparison purposes:

As stated earlier: This mod is not an isometric camera mod. My intention is to copy isometry and the idea behind it. That is, to achieve the most similar result possible without causing visual loss.

The map view was the most affected (positively) with this change in perspective. By adjusting the fov distortion up instead of down, we achieve a considerably higher level of detail, in addition to having a wider view of the neighborhood:

The mod will be available to supporters later today and to the general public in a few days. However, feel free to share your opinion here in the comments. :D
