Ok, regarding depth, back in 1980’s PADI recommend maximum depth for an open water diver of 60 ft to for beginners safety, to avoid decompression stop and to avoid Nitrogen Narcosis and the bends. However once you become advanced diver you can go to either 130ft or to your nitrogen narcosis depth. I have gone several times to 120 ft without any narcosis. Now the deeper you go the shorter your dive bottom time is. Regarding the dive computers, back in 1980 an 90’s they where not very available or affordable. We mainly used the Navy tables or the wheel to determine bottom time and decompression time and rest time to avoid decompression sickness aka the bends. The tables are very conservative. The computer because of its it’s accuracy in real time, allows a longer dive in general. I finally bought a used dive computer in 1998.
