The reason why Araragi and Hanekawa spent 5 minutes talking about nonsense is because Araragi tried to inquire further about the issue, and Hanekawa preferred to avoid the topic by acting foolish and asking unrelated questions, causing Araragi to stop asking and only request that she remove her hat. If before it was shown that Araragi is capable of helping anyone, even someone who tried to kill him (Kanbaru) or someone he doesn't know at all and who cursed someone else (Sengoku's arc), which indicates a strong savior complex, now it is shown that he also seems to have a strong sense of duty to repay his "debts," even if the other person does not feel that he owes them anything. Hence, he holds Oshino in such high regard for helping him with the vampire problem (and owing him 5,000,000 yen, even though we know Oshino doesn't care about money), and Araragi doesn't mind if Hanekawa gets angry with him, even if it would end their friendship, if it means paying the debt he has with her. Even though Hanekawa and Oshino told him that he saved himself during the Spring Break, he still believes that Hanekawa saved him. This makes us wonder, what happened during the Spring Break that makes Araragi feel he owes his life to Hanekawa? In each arc with the girls, we have been given glimpses of Araragi's character between the lines without explicitly telling us what he is like, because, of course, it is he who is narrating the story, and we are seeing it from his perspective. So it's normal for the storyteller to talk about everyone else but not himself or only very specific things about himself. It's important to remember now and in the future that we are seeing everything through Araragi's eyes, and we are being told a story narrated by him. To conclude, Hanekawa tells him that all the girls he has been involved with have had issues with oddities, and it all started after Araragi was attacked by a vampire during the Spring Break. Araragi simply responds that oddities have always been there and didn't just suddenly appear one day. What do you think oddities are?

I thought the whole time oddities are like curses, gods, demons... just supernatural stuff
