Quite the funny coincidence that you post this as Vol 21 of the LN came out this week. :) And i also happen to be reading Goblin Slayer Vol 2 as well. Do love this OVA a lot. As for Rudeus, this was right after he met with his dad, but before he reconcilliated with him. So he was really sad. It wasn't touched on in the Anime, but Therese Latria might have looked familiar. That's because she is the sister of Rudeus' mother Zenith. Therese later helps them cross the ocean between the Milis continent and the Central Continent, allowing them to continue their journey. They kinda just gloss over that in the anime, but it's not that important for a while.
