I've visited Yellowstone twice in my life, and both times was struck by the beauty and strangeness of the place. If you've never been... well, there's no other part of America quite like it.

Fortunately, during both visits, everyone around me was sensible and safe. But there was one incident which was a little bit tense. After visiting one thermal area, me and my friends headed back to the car park along a marked path... only to find a very calm and very immovable bison standing directly in our way.

We debated going off the path in order to skirt around, but didn't. In retrospect, having researched this video, I'm pretty happy with that decision. We waited for around 15 minutes, and the bison moved peacefully on. Phew.

The Yellowstone Hot Springs | A Short Documentary | Fascinating Horror

On the 1st of March, 1872, Yellowstone became the first National Park in the United States of America – an area of wilderness protected by the state for the preservation of wildlife, and for the enjoyment of all. They could hardly have picked a better place – Yellowstone was and (thanks to its protected status) remains a breathtakingly beautiful, alien landscape of unique geological features and thermal springs. These thermal springs in particular, like any wild and untamed thing, can be deadly – something which the park has wrestled with for its entire existence. 00:00 - Intro 00:53 - About Yellowstone National Park 01:54 - Three Hot Spring Incidents 08:22 - Conclusion I tell the true stories behind some of history's greatest disasters... but without sensationalism or disturbing imagery. Fascinating Horror is all about in-depth research, respectful storytelling, and learning what we can from the mistakes of the past. You might be surprised to discover just how much of today's world is shaped by long-forgotten disasters from decades gone by. Glad you were safe at Yellowstone -- bison are not to be messed with! Just saw a news story about a woman who was attacked by one. I've never been to this park, but would love to someday... but will probably avoid the water, haha...

Agreed. Having seen one up close I know who'd win in a fight between me and a bison - and it's not me. Hope you do manage to visit Yellowstone someday!
