It's been a while since I've dug into a good show. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed WandaVision, but I wanted something that would engage me even more. This month, I started a new series that did just that. But before I get to it, allow me to share my music, movie, and book recommendations.

music

If you're looking for an artist who will be there for your ups and downs, an artist who truly captures the extraordinary essence of alt R&B, I must humble recommend Jelani Aryeh.

Personally, I've been listening to his work for four years, so I've witnessed his well-deserved, slow rise to obscure fame.

Start with Suburban Destinesia and let the tears flow.

movie

I recently had the pleasure of watching my first non-anime Japanese film. Can I just say, I am so grateful for the ability to enter whole new worlds through foreign cinema.

The film is called Shoplifters (2018), and tells the story of a “chosen family” of sorts living in poverty in modern-day Japan. Let's just say that hijinks ensue and emotions run high, leaving you wondering what family even means. I don't want to spoil too much. Watch it for yourself ;)

book

The Deep by Rivers Solomon et al is a novella first introduced to me by Saber on YouTube. This short but sweet journey of the book follows a mermaid who has descended from the overthrown slaves of the Middle Passage. As the memory keeper of her people, she is debilitated by the weight of trauma. Find out what happens to her by reading the book. It's there, it's queer, and you won't regret it.

series

With only one episode left, releasing next week Friday, I am at the edge of my seat when it comes to the ending of one of my favourite shows of the year so far...

All I'll say is...if you're looking to satiate your hunger for gritty superheroes, a la The Boys and Watchmen, but you also enjoyed the fun yet mature vibe of Young Justice, this is the show for you. With a perfect blend of action, romance, intrigue, and drama, Invincible will keep you on your toes from beginning to end. Be warned: Shit hits the fan. Fast.
