It is ironic, and quite intriguing that his paramour Ellaria  Sand is quite likely the character who best represents opposition to these cycles of violence... and unlike Oberyn, she's still alive and still fighting for peace, while one of her daughters, named Elia for Oberyn's beloved sister, is joining the Game of Thrones.
