Now that this news has been out for a lil' bit, what do y'all think?

Pour out a cup for our homie Bloodmoon, it was widely expected as something of a sure thing. Maybe it's a silver lining that these mysteries from the ancient past aren't  being written by a non-GRRM writer's room. But... has any fandom ever had a major cancellation and a major commitment on the same day like this ever before? Those of us watching the news as it came out had quite the roller coaster of emotions.

Regardless of the dramatic news cycle and our feelings on what could have been... HotD has a great chance to be amazing! The Dance-era is filled with a huge number of compelling characters, not nearly all of them Targaryen. Lord Cregan Stark, Black Aly Blackwood, Larys Strong, Nettles, Criston Cole, Alicent Hightower, the Sea Snake, the Red Kraken, all manner of Lysene, Myrish, Tyroshi, Erryk/Arryk and more including all the Targaryens I didn't mention.

The Blacks and Greens costumes figure to be epic. We will get new locations, new castles. Harrenhal figures to be prominent, and I wonder if they'll use existing King's Landing for the site. The dragons will feature a variety of shapes and sizes and sounds... With a somewhat well known story (at least to our corner of the fandom) there's a lot of room for them to focus on conflict and character and acting.

I wouldn't worry about it being too action heavy i.e. too dragon-y. Let's be honest, that stuff is crazy expensive. Even with a generous budget they will be limited, and even Game of Thrones had only one rather short (and dark) dragon vs. dragon battle. I doubt what they'd liked to do in HotD is cheaper! But still, picture Sunfyre the Golden in flight, Nettles entering Sheepstealer's cave, or Vhagar vs. Caraxes over the God's Eye, Daemon's leap... Damn.

Because we're already on Dance content with Radio Westeros, not to mention our huge catalog of Fire & Blood content, the future is dragonflame-bright! We can't help but be overjoyed.

Thanks for the continued support, we love you all :)

The Dragons Take Wing

The dragons are coming... back. Last night in Hollywood at the WarnerMedia Day, HBO made it official. We have a green light for a GAME OF THRONES successor show... not just a pilot, but a full season order for ten episodes.

I see lots of comments that the show is likely to be mostly ‘Dance-era’ but I don’t see that in the announcement. I can imagine episode 1 with Daenys the Dreamer, Lord Aenar relocating to Dragonstone, then The Doom right at the end of the episode. That’s why Sapochnik is directing Ep1 - it’s a disaster movie. Imagine how awesome that episode would be! Episode 2 starts 125 years later, with Aegon...and we’re off with Fire & Blood. Ummm...what’s gonna happen when they run out of Fire & Blood??

Sir Galla-who of What

I hope Paul is right about the Targaryen origin story/DoV episode. That would be a great effort at pulling the disenchanted GoT show-only fans back from the bitter series end. Dragons, eruptions, tidal waves = ratings. If they run out of Fire and Blood...good question. The Blackfyre rebellion is sans-dragons so may not interest HBO.
