Rutherford The Brave

Just a question about Corlys' spotting of Sun Chaser- why didn't he try to initiate any contact with Elissa? It's understandable that there might be some apprehension on both sides, Elissa is kinda wanted by Corlys' king and close family ally so she might not be lookng to have a chat with a Velaryon. And, Sun Chaser is a mighty big ship which would need a boatload (pun intended) of people to crew, so Corlys might not be looking for a naval engagement (although I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to Sun Chaser's size, for all we know the Sea Snake would also have to be a pretty large vessel to support such long voyages and to bring enough wealth back to fund High Tide). But despite this, the both of them are on the other side of the world in Asshai, as far as they could be from anyone with the last name Targaryen. No one would have to know. Why wouldn't Corlys be interested in a western route from Westeros to Eastern Essos? Even if it was a voyage that he personally would never embark on (certainly not then, with hulls full of valuables to sell back in Westeros he would need to make stops at ports frequently to replenish food and supplies, as he would have less room on the Sea Snake), that would absolutely be worthwhile information to a mariner family such as his. On top of that, I feel like if I were in Corlys' shoes, I wouldn't want the Targaryens to know that I had likely seen Elissa's ship, but did nothing to apprehend her. In fact, it seems like the worst thing to do in this situation would be to spot Elissa Farman's ship who was wanted by your close family friends the Targs (also the royal house), do nothing, and then make a written claim so that everyone would know about it- as opposed to trying to gather any information about her route as he possibly could, and never letting anybody know that he ever saw her. I get that on a meta level this was just a clever way for George to sneak in a little sentence telling us that Elissa made it. But still, this little detail has been bugging me. I feel like out of almost any character that we've heard of in Westeros, Corlys Velaryon should be interested in a western trade route, and should not at all be interested in letting people know who he got it from. No conspiracies or tin foil hats, I'm just confused why Corlys wasn't as excited about having a conversation with Elissa Farman as I would be excited about having a conversation with GRRM. Unless, of course, she was just already dead. Thanks for all the amazing content from both of your channels!
