Our comic's birthday is on the 28th (NOPE, IT'S THE 22ND LMAO WHOOPS) so I whipped something up for it! You guys get to see it first though 💪

I was unsure about whether or not I could pull off the ocean convincingly, but it turns out that through using reference, all things are possible lol.

Final render
Thumbnail. They were originally going to be playing with a beach ball, but Bob thought sand sculptures were a better idea (and I agreed).
Sketch
Line art + value blocking. Doing a rough pass in black/white helps me roughly figure out the compositional contrast before I paint it.
Partial render. I like to work on the background first since it helps inform the lighting on the main subjects.
